English Championship football club Norwich City FC has put plans on hold for changes to Carrow Road stadium.

The BBC said club majority shareholder Mark Attanasio announced the proposed changes at Carrow Road – which would have involved moving 3,000 season ticket holders to new seats – had been paused.

Speaking to BBC Radio Norfolk while on a visit from the US, Attanasio said the management committee would take a “step back” from the project following negative feedback.

Norwich City Football Club is a professional football club based in Norwich, Norfolk, England. The club competes in the Championship, the second tier of English football.

The 27,150-capacity Carrow Road is a football stadium in Norwich, Norfolk, England (UK) and is the home of Norwich City F.C.

Norwich recently confirmed details of phased development works at the stadium as the club seeks to improve supporter experience and prepare the venue for the long-term future.

From the start of the 2026-2027 season the club had planned to introduce a new stadium layout. As part of the works the season ticket holders in the lower tier of the Regency Security Stand and a section of the South Stand were being asked to relocate to another area of the stadium.

As part of the new stadium layout, visiting supporters at Carrow Road were planned to be located in the lower tier of the Regency Security Stand whilst the club was also looking to develop a new premium experience in the South Stand.

However, these changes have now all been put on hold.

Emma Grant, one of the fans who called in to a special edition of Canary Call on local radio, told Attanasio, “I am really pleased that the pause button has been pressed to have a proper chance to think about how you engage with the fans.”

Norwich supporter Bridget James, from Swaffham, said, “The only plans communicated to us fans involve uprooting 3,000 of us in favour of corporate comfort.”

She said the unwanted redevelopment proposals would not have an impact on the state of affairs on the pitch. The club is currently languishing second-from-bottom in the Championship table.

A club statement published following the Canary Call special added: “We have taken the decision to postpone the work to allow us, and management, time to consider feedback and optimise the plans.”

Attanasio said fans who would have been affected by the plans would be in the same seats for the next year.

Jack Reeve, from the Talk Norwich City fan channel, said: “It is telling that Mark felt he needed to come over and speak.

“We need joined up thinking and leadership and hopefully last night was one way to kick this off.”

Following the update, supporters group the Canaries Trust, said in a statement, “We welcome the club’s statement. This is a great example of fan groups and the wider fanbase working together.”
