Olympia has been confirmed as the host venue for the Premier Padel Tour as it heads to London (UK) for the first time this year. The event will take place between August 4th and August 9th.

‘CITY AM’ stated that it was revealed in December that the Kensington site was the frontrunner to host the tournament which has the support of the Lawn Tennis Association.

The 10,000-capacity Olympia Events, formerly known as the Olympia London and sometimes referred to as the Olympia Exhibition Centre, is an exhibition center, event space and conference center in West Kensington in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, London, England (UK). A range of international trade and consumer exhibitions, conferences and sporting events are staged at the venue.

The Premier Padel (officially the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour for sponsorship purposes) is an international padel circuit organized by the International Padel Federation (FIP) with the support of the Professional Padel Association (PPA) – which brings together the professional male and female players – and is sponsored by the Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

Madrid (Spain)-based the International Padel Federation is the global governing body for the sport of padel. Founded in 1991 in Madrid by representatives from the Argentinian, Spanish and Uruguayan Padel Federations the FIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting padel worldwide.

Doha (Qatar)-based the Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) is a strategic, long-term private investment vehicle targeting established and early-stage sports assets. The QSI adds value through hands-on, expert-driven management and innovative capital solutions. The QSI was founded in 2004 and is one of the foremost groups in world sport investing in and operating assets in the sports sector across the globe.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man founded in 1888. The LTA promotes all levels of lawn tennis.

‘CITY AM’ further stated that the event – known as the London Premier Padel P1 – will form part of the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour as the sport seeks inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games and will take place at Olympia’s heritage halls following the major £1.3bn transformation.

The 2032 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXV Olympiad and also known as Brisbane 2032, is a planned international multisport event scheduled to take place from July 23rd-August 8th, 2032 in Brisbane, Australia, with venues across the various regions of Queensland.

Arturo Coello, the top-ranked male player, said, “The Premier Padel arriving in London is incredibly exciting. The energy of the city combined with such an iconic setting is going to make it a really special week. We’ve seen how quickly padel is growing in the United Kingdom so I’m sure the fans will create an unforgettable atmosphere.”

Padel at Olympia

Padel has experienced a boom in popularity across the United Kingdom with over 1,000 courts now accessible to the players.

The likes of Queen’s Club have adopted the padel courts while they are becoming a staple across Britain’s sporting infrastructure. Britain also boasts six of the world’s top 10 revenue generating clubs.

The Queen’s Club is a private sporting club in Barons Court, West Kensington, London, England (UK). The club hosts the annual Queen’s Club Championships grass court lawn tennis tournament (currently known as the ‘HSBC Championships’ for sponsorship reasons). It has 28 outdoor courts and 10 indoor.

Stated Stewart Hosford, Chief, backers Sela International, “Announcing Olympia as the host venue and opening ticket sales marks a hugely exciting step in bringing the London Premier Padel P1 to life. The Olympia’s £1.3bn transformation provides an incredible stage for the world’s best players to play in the United Kingdom for the first time. We can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable experience that introduces even more fans to the energy and passion of padel.”

It comes after data from racquet sports booking app Playtomic last year showed the United Kingdom to be the sport’s third biggest market behind only Spain and Italy.
