League 1 with attendance record Image: Ligue 1

The French professional league for men’s association football clubs – the Ligue 1 Uber Eats – has set new attendance records in the 2023-2024 seasons.

‘ligue1.com’ stated that over the course of this 2023-2024 seasons – which marked a transition to 18 teams – no less than 8.27 million spectators attended a Ligue 1 Uber Eats match (305 matches over the 34 rounds, excluding the playoffs).

The Ligue 1, officially known as the Ligue 1 Uber Eats for sponsorship reasons, is a French professional league for men’s association football clubs. Being the top of the French football league system, it is France’s primary football competition.

‘ligue1.com’ further stated that the average attendance in Ligue 1 Uber Eats was 27,113 spectators at the end of the season, which represents an increase of 14 percent compared to the 2022-2023 seasons. This is the best average attendance in history for Ligue 1 Uber Eats! It may be noted that 9 clubs out of 18 (Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., Olympique Lyonnais, LOSC Lille, RC Lens, FC Nantes, Stade Rennais F.C., Toulouse FC, and RC Strasbourg Alsace) saw more than 25,000 spectators on an average come to their matches.

This is not the only record they can celebrate at the end of the season in Ligue 1 Uber Eats. With an average rate of attendance of 85.4 percent (an improvement of four points compared to the previous season), the Ligue 1 Uber Eats also recorded its best historical average in this area, with eight clubs crossing the average rate bar of having their matches 90 percent soldout (RC Lens, Paris Saint-Germain F.C., RC Strasbourg Alsace, Stade Brestois 29, FC Lorient, Olympique de Marseille, and Clermont Foot 63).

In another sign of growing enthusiasm for the league, the Ligue 1 Uber Eats also broke its historic record for the number of fans on a round of league play on the 25th round, with 32,338 spectators per match.

The two teams promoted at the start of the 2023-2024 seasons are the clubs having experienced the greatest increase in their average attendance (+ 75 percent for Le Havre AC, + 51 percent for FC Metz), while Stade Brestois 29 (+15 percent) and Stade de Reims (+14 percent) are those whose attendances have increased the most among the clubs who played in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats last season.
