Populous has designed the stadium of Nashville Soccer Club, the Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion team, about two miles south of downtown Nashville. The venue will be located in the city’s Wedgewood-Houston area.

The team will start playing in their new home at the start of the 2022 season and the venue is expected to liven up the whole neighborhood.

Nashville SC will officially join the MLS during the 2020 season and will play at Nissan Stadium till the new facility is completed in 2022. Construction work of the new stadium is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2020.

Ian Ayre, Nashville SC CEO, said, “The most exciting thing is that it fits into the neighborhood. Utilizing all the things that are not only typically Nashville, but really fit within that neighborhood of Wedgewood-Houston – a lot of steel and brick and wood – making it uniquely Nashville. We are going to be the newest and biggest neighbor, and we want to make it feel like we have always been there, to a degree. I think seeing the design, seeing the renderings and seeing its proximity to the city, all of those things make it look like this should be here in Nashville for this soccer club.”

Ayre added, “Throughout the whole stadium, whether it’s premium or general admission or just on the concourses, we will have something that’s different and fits whatever your thing is and whatever your budget is. We’ll find a solution.”

The new stadium will be located at the historic Fairgrounds area which is always bustling with activity and boasts of a lot of added attractions like flea markets and eating joints. Nashville SC stadium will prove to be a shot in the arm for the area vis-à-vis the development factor.

Phil Kolbo, Populous designer, remarked, “The design of Nashville SC Stadium is meant to help fans feel like they’re home, serving as the bridge between Nashville and the surrounding neighborhood. This venue is an invitation to connect with the community and its historic blend of art and industry.”

Exuding a Nashville vibe, the 30,000-capacity arena – apart from game days – will host other events too like concerts and range of sports. The seating options of the facility will be something to write home about.

The stadium’s open and transparent exterior will allow spectators to see into the venue from the street. Keeping the sustainability factor in mind, the stadium will use durable materials that increase energy efficiency.

Nashville SC Stadium is the latest MLS stadium designed by Populous. The global architectural and design practice has blended tradition and innovation while designing the facility to ensure that fans savor once-in-a-lifetime experience.
