The Ras Abu Aboud Stadium is under construction in Doha, Qatar. The football stadium is being built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ and the chic arena – which is high on the sustainability quotient – is 7km from the Doha City Center.

‘The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy’ stated that the 40,000-capacity venue will go down in FIFA World Cup™ history as the first fully dismountable and reusable tournament venue and the facility will establish itself as a trailblazer in sustainable stadium development and design.

Designed by Madrid (Spain)-based Fenwick Iribarren Architects, the venue is being built using shipping containers and other modular materials. Overlooking the incredible and imposing Doha Corniche and West Bay skyline, the stadium will stage seven fixtures up to the round of 16 stages during Qatar 2022.

Mark Fenwick, Managing Partner, Fenwick Iribarren Architects, Spain, is a Member of Coliseum – Global Sports Venue Alliance.

‘The Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy’ further stated that the stadium is being built using 974 modular containers, with the delivery and installation of all containers now completed. This includes special containers for the energy substation. All remaining structural steel members, including tension rods, have also been delivered and set up. Setting up of all seats in the stadium is nearing completion, as are the mechanical, engineering, plumbing, and finishing works. External works in the precinct are underway.

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) was formed in 2011 and is tasked with delivering the proposed tournament venues and host country planning and operations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ – the first to be held in the Arab world.
