Real Madrid and the Community of Madrid have agreed to collaborate on a new Madrid Innovation District (MID) in the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid said the new technological space will be located on land in Real Madrid City, where companies, institutions, athletes, entrepreneurs and citizens will coexist with one another.

Some 85 of the district’s 120 hectares will be dedicated to promoting innovation, knowledge, the development of new technologies and attracting talent.

According to a report prepared by the consulting firm PWC, the MID will contribute around €1.2 billion annually to the regional GDP and create more than 23,000 jobs per year.

The MID’s construction will entail €1.3 billion in investment and more than 4,700 jobs.

Both institutions will collaborate to ensure that companies and research organisations establish themselves in this space.

Educational and research centres focusing on digital skills, artificial intelligence and data will also be established.

Real Madrid CF is a Spanish professional association football club based in Madrid, Spain. The club competes in the LaLiga, the top tier of Spanish football.

The club plays at the Bernabéu Stadium, a retractable roof football stadium in Madrid, Spain. With a seating capacity of 83,186 following its extensive renovation completed in late 2024 the stadium has the second-largest seating capacity for a football stadium in Spain.

The signing ceremony for the MID agreement took place at Real Madrid City and was attended by Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, the Minister for Digitalisation of the Community of Madrid, Miguel López-Valverde, and the President of the Madrid Business Confederation, Miguel Garrido.

The aim of the project is to encourage the establishment of head offices for large global innovation and development companies, along with other types of companies with a focus on technological innovation, generating synergies and a collaborative environment.

The MID will be the most important technology district in Europe, a nerve centre where talent and technology come together to shape the future.

It will be designed to attract the necessary talent and become a workspace and innovation hub that places Madrid at the epicentre of major international technology companies; a place where technology is in the air, where people can work, live, learn and have fun.

Real Madrid will contribute a unique space with great potential for the project: 850,000 m2 of land available in Valdebebas.

This is a privileged enclave with a strategic location next to Adolfo Suárez Airport and IFEMA, and excellent connectivity to one of Madrid’s nerve centres, the Santiago Bernabéu on the Paseo de la Castellana.

It will be a technological innovation district with a strategic design to bring together cutting-edge technology companies, academic institutions and research centres to act as a driver of knowledge, creativity and economic growth.

Club President Florentino Pérez commented, “This project is a unique opportunity for Madrid to become the great technological capital of southern Europe.”
