The site of Real Sociedad’s New Anoeta Stadium is buzzing with work as it prepares to open its doors next month for Spanish La Liga side’s first game this season.

According to media reports, representatives from the City Council of San Sebastián, Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, Basque Government and Real Sociedad visited the stadium last week to take stock of the progress ahead of the season’s first encounter.

The delegation returned satisfied with the progress on the side, particularly pleased with the radical transformation of the stadium which offers incredible views from the different stands.

Although the stadium is nearly ready for the first game, works will continue until the end of 2019. Even during the current season, workers will continue with the improvement works.

The new 40,000-capacity stadium, created by architect Jonathan Chanca, is currently in the process of the development of the exterior. After installing over 5,800 square meter of the internal transparent canopy ring, the facade works have now commenced. The blue cladding panels, which will cover an area of 18,500 square meter are currently being installed.

The chosen material is an ethylene tetrafluoroethylene membrane best known as ETFE or EFTE. It is attached to aluminium brackets and adopts its final form through tension via stainless steel tensile cables. This plastic material presents outstanding weathering and fire resistance properties. In addition its particular lightness allows for a simpler structural support strategy. A material thickness of 300 microns has been specified for Anoeta with a transparency factor of 25 percent.

Spanish stadium seating and bleachers company, Insitual, a brand of Daplast, are installing their Avatar product at the new stadium. The tip-up stadium seat, designed for first-class sports facilities, won a RedDot Design Award in 2016, rewarding its modern and elegant design, acclaimed as the best design in its category.
