Smith Entertainment Group partners with Live Nation Entertainment Image: Delta Center on Facebook

The Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) head honcho Ryan Smith hosted a presser recently and announced a partnership with the Live Nation Entertainment for the development of a new indoor music venue for downtown Salt Lake City (Utah, US).

‘abc4.com’ stated that the venue will have approximately 6,000 seats and it is being planned to host 200 events annually with 100 of those being concerts. This will be Live Nation’s only purpose-built, large indoor venue in the Salt Lake City area.

Salt Lake City (US)-based the Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) is a sports, entertainment, real estate, and technology investment group focused primarily on the State of Utah (US). The Smith Entertainment Group’s portfolio includes the National Basketball Association (NBA) team Utah Jazz, the National Hockey League (NHL) team Utah Mammoth, the 18,175-capacity Delta Center, the SEG Media (a sports media production and distribution company), The Shops at South Town (shopping mall in Sandy, Utah), the Salt Lake City Stars (NBA G League – the official minor league of the National Basketball Association), and the other Utah-centric business ventures.

Beverly Hills (US)-based the Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. is an American multinational entertainment company that was founded in 2010 following the merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster. It promotes, operates and manages ticket sales for live entertainment internationally. It also owns and operates entertainment venues and manages the career of the music artistes.

The 18,175-capacity Delta Center will continue to host concerts and other events for 12,000 to 19,000 attendees and so the new venue will serve the artistes looking for a mid-size venue option. The new venue is expected to host concerts, conferences and community and corporate events.

The above announcement is reportedly the first of many major announcements for the Smith Entertainment Group plan for their development of the downtown Sports, Entertainment, Culture, and Convention Center District in Salt Lake City.

‘abc4.com’ further stated that the venue will be located between the Delta Center and the Salt Palace Convention Center which the Smith Entertainment Group says will be the heart of the district. The exact location is yet to be finalized and renderings of the new venue are still under development.

Demolition will begin in Q1 of 2027 and construction will begin after that. The Smith Entertainment Group and the Live Nation said that they will coordinate closely with the Salt Lake County during the process.

Stated Smith, “Our goal has always been to bring enormous opportunities to downtown. Once the transformation of the Delta Center was underway partnering with the Live Nation on what a world-class concert venue could look like in downtown became a top priority. Not only will it bring the best artistes in the world to Utah but it will also bring a million people downtown to experience Salt Lake City every year.”

Smith added that the Smith Entertainment Group and the Live Nation are committing “considerable financial investment” in the development of the venue.

Maintained Michael Rapino, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Live Nation, “The Smith Entertainment Group’s (SEG’s) incredible vision for the downtown district aligns with our mission to expand access to live music. This venue will be a hub for unforgettable experiences connecting the fans with the artistes they love.”
