New spaces have been unveiled at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California to support guests with sensory sensitivities.

Spectrum News said the new sensory spaces are designed to provide a calm, supportive environment and are equipped with soft lighting, tactile elements, noise-reducing tools and comfortable seating.

They enable an escape from the loud environment of game day, which sometimes can cause sensory overload.

The Easterseals Sensory Space is located in SoFi Stadium’s Guest Service Center on Level 3 at the VIP Entry 12 northeast corner at SoFi. There will be another to come, also on Level 3.

SoFi Stadium is a 70,240-seat multipurpose stadium in Inglewood, California, United States, a suburb of Los Angeles. It is home to the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was the official launch of Easterseals Southern California’s (ESSC) multi-year Accessibility Partnership with SoFi Stadium, which is committed to advancing disability inclusion and belonging and ensuring a positive experience at the stadium for all.

On hand for the celebration was NFL Legend, former L.A. Charger Defensive Back Desmond King II, along with L.A. Chargers pup, Zeus.

A service dog sponsored by the team, Zeus also partners with ESSC to raise awareness about disability inclusion and belonging.

Desmond said, “I’m honored to be here at SoFi Stadum with Easterseals to open spaces like these.

“It’s important to me because my little brother and my nephew both have autism, as do the children of some of my friends and mentors. I created a space like this in my home as well to make them feel comfortable.

“We all get overwhelmed, not just people with disabilities. It’s a real positive to have a safe environment like this where you can relax and be calm when needed. Everyone should have a chance to experience the excitement of a game at SoFi.”

ESSC oversaw the design of two new, permanent spaces, which are available to people of all ages. They will be accessible during gamedays, concerts and other events.

Visitors will find soft lighting, tactile fidgets, noise-reducing elements, comfortable seating and tools that support self-regulation.

Sensory kits—with sunglasses and fidgets—will be available at guest service centers, where noise-cancelling headphones are also available to borrow.

Guest Experience staff have received training from Easterseals on inclusion and supporting guests in the new sensory spaces, with more training opportunities scheduled.

Mark Whitley, president & CEO, ESSC, said, “The greatest stadium in the world has become even better and more inclusive with the new Easterseals Sensory Spaces.

“Beyond the disability services we provide, it extends the impact of Easterseals into the community so we can all enjoy amazing experiences like SoFi Stadium.”

Paula Pompa-Craven, ESSC’s Chief Clinical Officer, Autism Services, added, “So many children and adults experience light, noise and motion differently.

“This is a way to take a break when sensory input feels too intense, a place where they are able to ease the discomfort that can come with that and feel a genuine sense of belonging in the community.”
