Stadium in Dortmund will again become vaccination center Image: BVB

With Germany getting clobbered by COVID-19, the Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund is going to convert a part of its residence – the Signal Iduna Park – into a vaccination center.

The ‘Borussia Dortmund’ stated that the above initiative has been taken in concert with the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Westphalia-Lippe (KVWL). The vaccination drive will start on December 2nd, 2021. Several thousand doses of vaccines are available.

Borussia Dortmund, BVB, or simply Dortmund, is a German professional sports club based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It plays in Bundesliga, the top of the German football league system.

The 81,365-capacity Westfalenstadion is a football stadium in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which is the home of Borussia Dortmund. Officially called the Signal Iduna Park for sponsorship reasons and BVB Stadion Dortmund in Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) competitions, the name derives from the former Prussian province of Westphalia.

The ‘Borussia Dortmund’ further stated that the BVB had already used Germany’s largest stadium as a vaccination center in Summer 2020 when coronavirus had beaten the world to pulp.

The highly effective mRNA vaccines from Moderna and BioNTech are available in this BVB-KVWL initiative, and will be administered as first or second doses or booster shots. The jab will be given to the under-30 population as well as to pregnant women.

The vaccination center sits in the West Stand area (‘Alter Markt’) via the BVB FanWelt on Strobelallee. Shots will be administered every day from 8 am to 8 pm from December 2nd. The timings will, however, change from December 6th (8 am-6 pm). The vaccination center will remain closed on matchdays.

Borussia Dortmund and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians Westphalia-Lippe will not give any appointments as part of their vaccination campaign. People who will come to get inoculated have been requested to remain patient if there are serpentine queues. One must carry one’s identity card, health insurance card and (if available) the vaccination certificate to the vaccination center.
