Skanska-led Sweden swim center-football venue

The Swedish multinational construction and development company Skanska has entered into an agreement worth approximately Skr580m ($58.4m) with the Municipality of Landskrona to construct a football stadium and an indoor swim center in Sweden.

‘yahoo!finance’ stated that the contract will be included under the company’s Sweden segment for the second quarter of 2025.

Stockholm (Sweden)-based Skanska AB is a multinational construction and development company based in Sweden. It was established in 1887 as a concrete product manufacturer.

Skanska, a construction and project development company with revenues of Skr177bn in 2024, operates in the Nordics, Europe and the United States and employs roughly 26,300 people.

‘yahoo!finance’ further stated that the new stadium will have a capacity to hold 6,800 spectators all seated under a roof and will be suitable for matches in the highest division.

The swim center will feature two pools: A 50m pool and a 25m pool with a height-adjustable bottom alongside a swimming play area.

Preparatory work has been underway since mid-2024 in collaboration with the Municipality.

The construction of these sports facilities forms a part of the broader development of the Karlslund recreation area.

The Karlslund recreation area is a sports and recreation area, primarily known for its manor house, the gardens and the riverside trails. It’s located near Örebro, Sweden, and offers opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the natural surroundings.

The above project construction is set to commence in August this year. The football arena is expected to be completed in 2027 while the swim center is set for completion in 2028.

In addition to the Landskrona development Skanska recently secured a contract for foundational and quay construction for the BECCS Stockholm facility, a carbon capture and storage project, with Stockholm Exergi.

The BECCS Stockholm is a large-scale Bio-Energy Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) project by Stockholm Exergi (Stockholm’s energy provider) aimed at creating a full-scale BECCS facility at their existing heat and power biomass plant in Värtaverket, Stockholm (Sweden). The project captures biogenic CO₂ from the combustion of biofuels, liquefies it and then transports it to Norway for permanent storage in the bedrock under the North Sea. This process creates negative emissions meaning that the captured CO₂ is removed from the atmosphere.

This contract, valued at Skr990m, will see construction commencing immediately and is expected to conclude in 2028.

Furthermore, this February, Skanska agreed with the Västra Götaland Region (a county or län on the Western Coast of Sweden) to renovate and expand the Eastern Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. This project involves remodeling two levels of the existing central clinic and adding a new five-story building.
