The £135m Swansea Arena in the United Kingdom is all set to open its doors in 2021 and will bathe in opulence.

The ‘Swansea Arena’ stated that the landmark 3,500-person indoor arena will soon be attracting some of the world’s top music acts and theater productions to the City of Swansea in Wales (UK) when doors open in late 2021.

Appointed as the operator of this brand-new music and theater venue, the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG) – which operates more than 50 venues worldwide – will bring its vast network and programing scale to create a diverse content mix of music, comedy, gaming, and sports for Swansea’s first indoor arena. With 2,000m² of exhibition space to host 2,500 people with a full dining experience catering for 750, Swansea Arena will be the perfect venue for meetings, away days, graduations, conferences, and Annual General Meetings (AGMs).

The ‘Swansea Arena’ further stated that the indoor arena will be one of the major landmark attractions of the overall Swansea Central development site ‘Copr Bay’ which will also include new shops, restaurants, two new multistory car parks for almost 1,000 cars, City center apartments, 1.1 acre parkland, and a ‘gateway’ landmark pedestrian bridge over Oystermouth Road to improve connections between the City and the beach. Copr Bay Phase One is part-funded by
The Swansea City Deal, a £1.3bn investment secured for major transformation projects in the Swansea Bay region.

The ‘Wales Online’ stated that the Swansea Council has informed that the 3,500-seat digital arena in Oystermouth Road (UK) is on course to open in the second half of 2021. The outer shell of the structure is also taking shape and will eventually be covered with 93,000 programable LED light bulbs in time for the long-anticipated venue to stage top music acts and conferences.

Work is on in full swing at the foyer area and auditorium, complete with tiered seating. The auditorium gantry is in place and a sweeping foyer area complete with glass paneled outer walls.

Other plans for the finished site include a two-story car park with parkland on its roof. The base of the cafe and restaurant will feature in the parkland.

The ‘Wales Online’ further stated that as excitement builds for the opening of the new arena, the Ambassador Theatre Group (ATG), which is behind a chain of theaters in the West End and Broadway, has struck a long-term deal to run the new venture.

Job openings

The company is recruiting for four positions for people to become an integral part of the venue, and they all offer salaries of £40,000 per annum. The group is looking for a Conference and Events Manager, Operations Manager, Head of Marketing and Sales, and a Technical and Building Manager.

Mixed views

A new footpath and cycleway is also being created running alongside the arena and the car park will come complete with a “living wall”.

It is a mixed opinion in the City of Swansea as far as the eye-catching golden structure is concerned, with some people comparing it to a taco or the inside of a Crunchie chocolate bar. It was recently illuminated with temporary lighting to give people an idea of what it might eventually look like at night.

When officially opened, the 50 m long landmark bridge will link the two sides of the Copr Bay Phase One project, near to the LC, St David’s Church and Tesco Marina. The aim is to help bring the City and the sea closer together.

Swansea Council is financing Copr Bay Phase One, with some funding for the arena coming from the £1.3bn Swansea Bay City Deal.
