The South Korean professional baseball teams LG Twins and the Doosan Bears will temporarily relocate to the main Olympic stadium in Seoul’s (South Korea) Southern Jamsil district while their current baseball stadium undergoes reconstruction, Seoul officials said on July 9th.

‘YONHAP NEWS AGENCY’ stated that as part of Seoul’s broader construction plan to transform the Jamsil area into a major sports and entertainment district, the Jamsil Baseball Stadium, currently home to the LG Twins and the Doosan Bears, will undergo reconstruction to become a 30,000-seat domed stadium to open in March 2032.

The LG Twins are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Seoul, South Korea. They are a member of the KBO League. The Twins play their home games at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium which they share with their rivals the Doosan Bears.

The Doosan Bears are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Seoul, South Korea. Founded in 1982, they are a member of the KBO League. The Bears have won six Korean Series titles and play their home games at Seoul’s Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

The Jamsil Baseball Stadium is a baseball stadium located at 25 Olympic-ro, Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea. The stadium holds 25,000 people and opened in July 1982.

The KBO League is the highest level of baseball league in South Korea. The KBO League was founded with six franchises in 1982 and is the most popular sports league in South Korea. The Kia Tigers are the most successful team, having won 11 of the 42 championships.

The 69,950-capacity Seoul Olympic Stadium, also known as the ‘Jamsil Olympic Stadium’, is a multipurpose stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It is the main stadium built for the 1988 Summer Olympics and the 10th Asian Games in 1986.

‘YONHAP NEWS AGENCY’ further stated that during the five seasons from 2027-2031, the two baseball clubs will relocate to the Jamsil Olympic Stadium, a 60,000-seat venue, which will be temporarily renovated to an 18,000-capacity ballpark, Seoul City officials said.

Additional seats will be made available to accommodate up to 30,000 spectators during major games or postseason events.

With a renovation budget between 30 billion won (US$21.7 million) to 40 billion won, the running tracks and the football field of the stadium will be replaced with a standard baseball field with dugouts and other amenities to be added.

The City had initially considered relocating the teams to the 10,500-capacity Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul and the 16,744-capacity Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, respectively, but ultimately opted for the Jamsil main stadium based on the clubs’ preferences.

Said Heo Koo-youn, Commissioner of the Korea Baseball Organization (governing body of the KBO League), “I extend my thanks to those involved in the joint efforts to tackle the issue, including the Seoul City Government, on behalf of the baseball community. In cooperation with the teams, the Seoul City and other related organizations, the KBO will do its utmost to provide a safe and comfortable environment to the fans.”
