The plans for the ambitious multifunctional project for the Kantrida Stadium in Rijeka, Croatia, were unveiled recently.

‘CROATIAWEEK’ stated that the project plans drawn up include a new stadium with over 12,000 seats, a 200-room five-story hotel, three towers, one of which would boast 35 floors with a height of 116 meters.

The 10,600-capacity Kantrida Stadium is a football stadium in the Croatian City of Rijeka. It is named after the Kantrida neighborhood in which it is located in the Western part of the City. It has served as the home of the HNK Rijeka football club for most years since at least 1918. It presently serves as the home pitch of the Croatian professional women’s association football club ŽNK Rijeka.

The ŽNK Rijeka is a Croatian professional women’s association football club based in Rijeka, Croatia. It is the women’s team of HNK Rijeka. They compete in the Croatian Women’s First Football League, the top women’s football league in Croatia.

HNK Rijeka is a Croatian professional football club from the City of Rijeka, Croatia. HNK Rijeka competes in Croatia’s top division, Supersport HNL.

The 8,279-capacity Stadium Rujevica, officially known as Stadium HNK Rijeka, is a stadium in the City of Rijeka, Croatia. Since August 2015, the stadium is serving as a temporary home ground for the HNK Rijeka while the new Kantrida Stadium will be constructed.

‘CROATIAWEEK’ further stated that the plan envisages that at night, the stadium will be illuminated in the club’s colors.

Due to stormwater issues and the rising sea levels (Adriatic Sea), the design firm associated with the above project is considering constructing a one-kilometer long canal.

The new Kantrida Stadium will sit on the same site on which the old one sits. HNK Rijeka has moved to Stadium Rujevica to facilitate reconstruction of the old Kantrida Stadium.
