Temporary Zaragoza stadium plan revealed

MLN Group and Nussli have been picked to build a temporary stadium for Spanish football club Real Zaragoza while its La Romareda Stadium is rebuilt.

The pop-up stadium will be built in the North Parking, where Real Zaragoza will play as a home team during the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 seasons.

Nussli said the modular stadium will have all the necessary facilities to offer a complete experience to fans and meet the standards required for high-level sporting events.

The stadium, with a capacity for 20,000 spectators, will consist of four straight stands, and will cover a total area of 120 x 80 metres with a north-south orientation.

Inside the venue, ticket offices, a merchandising shop, food and drink sales points will be located in various areas and booths for radio and television commentators will be installed.

The project also includes a building attached to the main stand that will house the team changing rooms, an infirmary, a doping control area and an operations control room, as well as VIP rooms and rest areas.

All the stands will be modular, designed to facilitate their easy assembly and disassembly. The main stand will have a resistant roof and the floors will be made of water-repellent material to withstand intense use.

The playing field will be made of natural grass, with irrigation and drainage systems that will ensure its optimal condition.

In addition to the installation of the modular stadium and the auxiliary buildings, the contract includes the conditioning and paving of the plot, the perimeter fencing and the execution of sanitation networks, water supply and pipes, as well as public lighting and the installation of lighting on the playing field.

Real Zaragoza, commonly referred to as Zaragoza, is a football club based in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain, that currently competes in the Segunda Division the second tier of the Spanish league system. Zaragoza currently holds its home games at the La Romareda Stadium.

The stadium was inaugurated on September 8th, 1957. The official capacity of the venue is 33,608, with an average attendance of around 20,000 for Real Zaragoza matches.

The new stadium will be called the San José Stadium and will replace the La Romareda Stadium. The stadium will have a capacity of 43,184.

It is a 360 degree redevelopment of the La Romareda Stadium and will unfold in five phases with the first phase beginning in July this year. The total cost of the project is €140 million (£121.8 million/$152.5 million).
