TV network Kayo Sports and the Australian National Rugby League (NRL) team The Dolphins announced a partnership on December 8th that will see the NRL’s newest club rename its home base from Moreton Daily Stadium to Kayo Stadium in Queensland, Australia.

‘mediaweek’ stated that Fox League host Yvonne Sampson was joined by The Dolphins CEO Terry Reader, Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett and Dolphins players Tom Gilbert and Mark Nicholls to announce the new four-year agreement.

New South Wales (Australia)-based Kayo Sports is an over-the-top video streaming subscription service available in Australia, owned by Streamotion. The service offers sports live and on demand from Fox Sports, ESPN, beIN Sports, and Racing.com.

The Dolphins are a professional rugby league football team based in the Redcliffe Peninsula area of the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, that competes in the Australian National Rugby League (NRL). Launched as a bid for inclusion into the NRL by Queensland Cup side Redcliffe Dolphins in 2020, The Dolphins were granted a separate license in October 2021 to compete as the national league’s 17th side from the 2023 season onwards. It is the fourth NRL team in the State of Queensland, and the second in the capital City of Brisbane, alongside the Brisbane Broncos.

The 11,500-capacity Kayo Stadium, formerly known as Dolphin Stadium until 2018 and Moreton Daily Stadium until 2022, is a sports stadium in the suburb of Kippa-Ring in the Moreton Bay Region, North of the adjoining Brisbane metropolitan City, Queensland, Australia. It serves as the home ground of The Dolphins.

The National Rugby League (NRL) is an Australasian rugby league club competition which contains clubs from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and New Zealand.

Said Cate Hefele, Executive Director of Kayo Sports, “The arrival of The Dolphins in the NRL means more live games, more action and greater competition. The club has a large and passionate fan base. We can’t wait to welcome The Dolphins fans, and all rugby league fans, to the Kayo Stadium to watch their team in action through this exciting partnership. And for fans watching at home, Kayo Sports will continue to be the only place to see every game of every round live and ad-break free.”

‘mediaweek’ further stated that the Queensland-based team will enter the National Rugby League competition next season, meaning there will be even more live NRL games made available to Kayo Sports’ 1.3 million customers.

Stated Terry Reader, head honcho of The Dolphins, “Today (December 8th) we announced that Kayo Sports will be the naming rights partner of our stadium here, our spiritual home here in Redcliffe where we will play three of our NRL games not to mention our main trial here in only about six weeks’ time. Another great example of why Brisbane needs a second team, another big partner behind the club and not to mention, wonderful turn out here to watch the first official open training session. Kayo Stadium is Brisbane’s best boutique stadium and has hosted the National Rugby League Women’s Premiership (NRLW) Grand Final as well as being a base for Brisbane Roar’s A-League matches.”

Added Reader, “Kayo Sports is the ultimate destination for fans and we believe the Kayo Stadium will provide the same level of excitement for our members and supporters.”

Added Wayne Bennett, Dolphins Coach, “It’s great to have Kayo onboard, they’ve made a huge impact on our sport and their product and what they produce and how they produce it, so it’s wonderful to be tied up with such a great brand.”

The Dolphins will play their first home game at the newly branded Kayo Stadium when they take on the Gold Coast Titans for a trial match on February 19th, 2023.
