Concacaf Gold Cup Final at TQL Stadium Image: FC Cincinnati

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) named on April 10th the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio (US) as one of 15 stadiums that will host matches in this Summer’s 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. The 17th edition of Concacaf’s flagship competition for men’s national teams will be played between June 16th-July 16th and will crown the best national team in the region.

‘FC Cincinnati’ stated that Cincinnati, one of 14 metropolitan areas to host Gold Cup matches this Summer, will host the Concacaf Gold Cup matches for this first time.

Miami, Florida (US)-based the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, abbreviated as Concacaf, is one of FIFA’s six continental governing bodies for association football.

The 26,000-capacity TQL Stadium, called the West End Stadium during construction, is a soccer-specific stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio (US). It is the home of FC Cincinnati, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team that had been temporarily playing at the Nippert Stadium.

The 40,000-capacity James Gamble Nippert Memorial Stadium is an outdoor stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio (US), on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. Primarily used for American football, it is the home field of the Cincinnati Bearcats football team of the National Conference Athletic Association (NCAA) American Athletic Conference Football.

The FC Cincinnati is an American professional soccer club based in Cincinnati, US. The club plays in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The team was first announced on August 12th, 2015 as a United Soccer League franchise which played from 2016 to 2018.

The 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup will be the 17th edition of the Concacaf Gold Cup, the biennial international men’s football championship of the North, Central American and Caribbean region organized by Concacaf.

The draw for the Concacaf showcase was held on April 14th at the 70,240-capacity SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California (US), site of the 2023 Gold Cup Final.

‘FC Cincinnati’ further stated that the Concacaf will announce a complete match schedule, including specific match venue assignments, ticketing information and other details in the days following the official draw.

The TQL Stadium has previously hosted three matches at the international level, including the U.S. Men’s National Team’s vital home FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Mexico in November 2021, a 2-0 win for the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT). Most recently at the international level, Cincinnati hosted the USMNT in an International Friendly against Morocco last June, when the Stars and Stripes defeated the eventual 2022 World Cup-semifinalists, 3-0.

The United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) represents the United States in men’s international soccer competitions. The team is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of FIFA and Concacaf.

  • September 21st, 2021 – U.S. Women’s National Team 8, Paraguay 0 – International Friendly;
  • November 12th, 2021 – U.S. Men’s National Team 2, Mexico 0 – 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier; and
  • June 1st, 2022 – U.S. Men’s National Team 3, Morocco 0 -International Friendly.
