Plans have been set in motion for the establishment of a TSV 1860 Munich stadium operating company.

German 3.Liga club TSV 1860 Munich said the company is being set up as a limited liability company (GmbH) to oversee the construction, conversion, renovation, and maintenance of the municipal Grünwalder Stadium.

The new company will also conclude leasehold agreements and ensure the ongoing operation of the stadium. The establishment of the company is a significant milestone in the club’s long-term stadium planning.

The 15,000-capacity Grünwalder Stadium (also known as the Sechzger Stadium) is a football stadium in Munich, Germany. It was built in 1911 and serves as the residence of the TSV 1860 Munich which plays in the third division of the German football league system.

The move to set up a TSV 1860 Munich stadium operating company has been prompted by the interim results of a feasibility study commissioned by the Stadium Commission, which is currently on schedule and is examining plans to redevelop the Grünwalder Stadium.

The goal of the redevelopment is to modernize the stadium to meet second-division or Bundesliga standards.

Key elements of the renovation include increasing the capacity to 25,000 seats, installing a roof over the stands, and conducting a noise impact assessment. Key elements of the study are:

  • Increasing the stadium capacity to at least 25,000 spectators with a roof for all stands and enclosed corners
  • Meeting the requirements of the DFL competitions (ideally UEFA Category 4)
  • Planning and integration of modern hospitality and advertising spaces
  • Integration of fan shops, catering facilities, and flexible event spaces

The preliminary results so far give the Executive Committee confidence that it can now take the next step in the planning process and establish the necessary corporate structures.

The TSV 1860 Munich stadium operating company’s share capital will come entirely from external contributions. Membership fees from TSV Munich 1860 will not be used for this purpose.

The company’s articles of association will allow third parties to participate in the company under certain conditions.

A key condition is that TSV Munich 1860 must always retain at least 51 percent of the company shares.

This ensures that the club permanently maintains a majority stake in the company and that control over the management of Grünwalder Stadium remains in the hands of club members.

The Executive Committee will ask the members at the Annual General Meeting on June 21, 2026, to approve the establishment of the stadium operating company so that the next steps can be initiated.
