Chilean Primera División football club Universidad Católica’s (UC) new under-construction stadium in Santiago will be named Claro Arena.

Universidad Católica has struck a naming rights deal for the venue with telecommunications company Claro, and said the new venue will stand out for being modern, sustainable and for offering standards of excellence in service, security and operation.

Th strategic 20-year alliance between the club and the telecom company seeks to promote the venue as one of the most innovative and avant-garde stadiums in the region. It is due to open early in 2025.

The Club Deportivo Universidad Católica, also known as Los Cruzados, is a professional football club based in Santiago, Chile. Founded in 1937, they play in the Primera División, the top-flight of Chilean football. The team has played its home games at the Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo since 1988.

The Estadio San Carlos de Apoquindo is a football stadium in Las Condes in the metropolitan region of Santiago de Chile. It is used mostly for home matches of the Chilean top-flight Club Deportivo Universidad Católica which also owns the stadium. The stadium was built in 1988 and currently holds 14,768 people.

Claro Arena will have the capacity to host 20,000 fans in a modern and multipurpose venue, with roofs covering the stands and a series of features that will contribute to a great experience for visitors.

The new Claro Arena will be the first stadium in Chile to be powered by ‘Green’ energy.

Universidad Católica said that the stadium will be supported by a solar plant and will incorporate various solutions such as demand monitoring, electrical vehicle charging devices, architectural lighting, and a renewed infrastructure to sustain the operation of a modern, sustainable and a 100 percent electric stadium.

In addition, other elements such as the reuse of gray water, reforestation and redesign of the exterior of the stadium, in addition to being built with green steel, green wood, will help it become the first in the region to have LEED certification.

The president of Cruzados, Juan Tagle, said, “This announcement represents for Cruzados the completion of a historic agreement in the field of sports management. A step like the one that Universidad Católica is taking today demonstrates how important the support of private companies is to evolve in sports.

“We are truly very pleased to welcome the Claro Arena and we invite all Cruzados to feel proud of this enormous effort that those of us who love UC have made to have a great stadium that will soon be fully operational.”
