Tampere Deck Arena - Sept. 2020 update

UROS Live, the under-construction arena which will be able to accommodate 15,000 spectators in Tampere, Finland, will go on stream in December 2021. An announcement to this regard was made recently.

The schedule for the first events to be held at the arena will be announced at a later date. UROS Live will serve as the home venue of ice hockey teams Tappara and Ilves and has also been penciled in to be a host venue for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships.

Tappara is a Finnish ice hockey team playing in the Liiga. They play at Tampereen jäähalli in Tampere, Finland. Ilves is a Finnish ice hockey team. They play in the Liiga at the Hakametsä.

UROS Live’s partner network includes Lapland Hotels, restaurant operator NoHo Partners, Veikkaus Casino and Lippu.fi, all of which will be free to start operating on the arena’s premises in December 2021.

Remarked Marko Hurme, Chief Executive of UROS Live, “It’s great that the completion schedule has now been confirmed, not only for the teams, our partners and the event organizers, but it’s also great news for all the people of Tampere. The arena will be full of life every day of the year, even when there are no events on, and it will be a living room for the people of Tampere.”

UROS Live is set to stage major music concerts as well as ice hockey matches, and some of the arena’s events will be announced in the autumn.

Said Mika Aro, Chief Executive of Tappara, “Of course, the new home arena is really important for us. The conditions and features are absolutely top notch, both for the players and spectators; there has never been an arena this great in Finland. We’ll turn a new page in Tappara’s history when the UROS LIVE arena provides us with world-class conditions.”

Ilves boss Risto Jalo added, “It’ll be great to play at the UROS Live arena, the best venue in Finland. This is a great opportunity not only for the team, but also for our supporters and partners. The game experience and the arena’s easy access in the heart of the City will take us to a whole new level.”

Finnish technology company UROS secured naming rights to the arena in March as part of a 10-year deal. UROS will develop solutions and services for the arena to allow stakeholders and guests to create and enjoy new experiences and spend quality time in the arena.

The seating capacity of the facility for ice hockey matches will be 13,330 with its 28-meter rink and 13,500 with its 26-meter rink. Seating capacity for concerts will range from 12,000 to 15,000.

The arena hotel will boast a total of 273 rooms, with the venue itself to feature 52 hospitality boxes. UROS Live claims to be the first downtown arena in Europe and it is hoped the venue will add glitz to the City of Tampere and the wider Pirkanmaa region. The arena complex also includes a restaurant and a casino.

Construction on the main arena for the Ice Hockey World Championship 2022 began in 2018. The stadium will bear the name UROS LIVE Arena for at least 10 years.
