New name for Wanda Metropolitano Image: Cívitas

The LaLiga football club Atlético de Madrid (Spain) home venue will no longer be called Wanda Metropolitano. From now on, it will be called Civitas Metropolitano.

The top-flight entered into a naming rights partnership with Spanish real estate firm Civitas Pacensis following the club’s previous stadium deal with Wanda expiring earlier this Summer.

‘kicker’ stated that club President Enrique Cerezo announced the above on July 19th.

Club Atlético de Madrid, S.A.D., known simply as Atleti in the Spanish-speaking world and commonly referred to at the international level as Atlético Madrid, is a Spanish professional football club based in Madrid, Spain, that plays in LaLiga, the men’s top professional football division of the Spanish football league system.

The 68,456-capacity Metropolitano Stadium, also referred to as Cívitas Metropolitano for sponsorship reasons, is a stadium in Madrid, Spain. It has been the home stadium of Atlético Madrid since the 2017-2018 seasons. It is located in the Rosas neighborhood, in the San Blas-Canillejas district.

‘kicker’ further stated that Civitas Pacensis will also become the club’s “main sponsor sustainability” in the future. The naming rights deal has been struck for five years and will bring in €50m for the club.

Until now, the stadium, which reopened in 2017 after a major renovation under the name Wanda Metropolitano, was named after the Chinese conglomerate Wanda.

A training facility will also come up next to the stadium and the club’s partnership with Civitas will include collaboration on the construction of the new facility.
