The Rock (Rhosymedre, Wales, UK) will become the long-term permanent home of the Wrexham A.F.C. Women after the club completed the purchase of the Rhosymedre venue.

‘BBC SPORT’ stated that the Adran Premier side have used the North Wales facility (The Rock) – the home of the now-dissolved Cefn Druids A.F.C. – for their home matches and as their training base since the beginning of the 2023-2024 campaign.

The Wrexham Association Football Club Women, formerly known as the NEWI Wrexham Ladies and the Wrexham Ladies F.C., is a Welsh semi-professional women’s football club that competes in the Adran Premier, the first-tier of women’s football in Wales (UK).

The 3,000-capacity The Rock is a football stadium in Rhosymedre, Wales (UK). It is currently the home stadium for the Wrexham A.F.C. Women.

‘BBC SPORT’ further stated that but Jenny Sugarman’s (Wrexham A.F.C. Women) side will now have full use of the stadium on a permanent basis while Cefn Druids will continue to have use of the facilities for their training and fixtures.

Though the Cefn Druids were dissolved from their senior league but have since reformed and are now playing in Tier 5 of the Welsh football pyramid for the 2024-2025 seasons.

Maintained Michael Williamson, Wrexham Chief Executive Officer (CEO), “The acquisition of The Rock represents a significant milestone for the club providing the Wrexham A.F.C. Women with a permanent home and a dedicated training facility. It illustrates our continued commitment to supporting and growing the women’s game in North Wales.”

Wrexham say they plan to improve the facilities at The Rock in a bid to ensure the women’s side can remain competitive in the Adran Premier – the top tier of domestic women’s football in Wales.

Added Williamson, “Having a venue in the Wrexham County Borough and close to the 12,600-capacity STōK Cae Ras in Wrexham, Wales (home of the Wrexham A.F.C. [Men’s first team]) gives us flexibility allowing the Women’s first team to train and play matches locally while still having access to a larger venue when needed. We’ll begin with essential maintenance ahead of the new season followed by a longer-term vision to enhance the pitch, stadium and the surrounding infrastructure. Our goal is not only to establish a top-tier facility for our Women’s team but also to protect and revitalize a key community asset, one that can inspire the next generation of Women’s football across the region.”

Commenting on the sale of The Rock, the Cefn Druids Chairman Des Williams stated, “I am delighted that The Rock passes into the hands of the Wrexham A.F.C. and becomes the official home and training center of the Wrexham AFC Women.”

He added, “I can think of no more fitting venue for them to continue their adventure at the very highest level of Welsh women’s football. I wish them all the very best of luck for the new season.”
