Parken Sport & Entertainment wants to sell Parken stadium and FC København Image: Parken Stadion

The Parken Sport & Entertainment, the parent company of the Danish professional football club F.C. Copenhagen and their home ground – the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark – has confirmed that it is weighing options on the sale of the top-flight club and their home stadium.

No Clear Picture

A clear picture has still not emerged that a full or partial sale of either FC Copenhagen or PARKEN Ejendomme A/S will be completed.

Examining Options

It is exploring the possibility of selling a partial or full stake in F.C. Copenhagen. The above move aims at giving more teeth to the club and supporting its continued development.

Strategic Shift

‘parkenstadion.dk’ stated that the FC Copenhagen accounted for about two-fifths of the group revenue last year thus making any disposal a significant strategic shift for Parken whose other operations include the holiday resorts and the commercial property. Its shares rose as much as 14.6 percent to their highest level in more than a year after the above announcement.

The Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S (PS&E) is a publicly-traded Danish leisure, sports and entertainment company headquartered at the Parken Stadium in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark.

The F.C. Copenhagen, commonly known as F.C. København, is a Danish professional football club based in Østerbro, Copenhagen.

The Parken Stadium is a football stadium in the Indre Østerbro (Inner Østerbro) district of Copenhagen, Denmark, built from 1990 to 1992. The stadium, which features a retractable roof, currently has a capacity of 38,190 for football games and is the home of F.C. Copenhagen.

‘parkenstadion.dk’ further stated that the process could also include the Parken Stadium, along with its office towers, although the sale of the stadium is not a prerequisite for the sale of the football club.

Strategic Alternatives

The Board of Directors of Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S has arrived at a conclusion that the time is right to examine whether there are strategic alternatives to the group’s current ownership of FC Copenhagen, including whether there are strategic opportunities that can contribute to strengthening the continued development of Scandinavia’s leading football club through continued investment in sporting performance, fan experiences and football infrastructure.

Handpicked Investors

A full or partial divestment of the FC Copenhagen and the PARKEN Ejendomme A/S (a subsidiary or operational asset entity of Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S) will be discussed with handpicked potential investors in the coming period. The Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S has engaged London (UK)-based sports advisory and capital solutions firm Tifosy Capital & Advisory as the exclusive financial advisor in connection with the entire exercise.

Normal Operations

The Parken Sport & Entertainment A/S activities, including the FC Copenhagen’s sporting activities, will continue as normal during the period.

The review also covers FC Copenhagen’s women’s football business and the group’s stake in Sweden’s FC Rosengård (a professional football club based in Malmö, Scania, Sweden).
