Major League Soccer (MLS) side DC United have rolled out a new mobile app for their new stadium allowing fans to purchase and trade season tickets using virtual currency, according to several media reports.

The platform will be equipped with Fan Allocation Money, which can be used towards tickets, upgrades and unique fan and venue experience at the 20,000-seater Audi Field, which is expected to open on July 14. The virtual currency will also allow fans of the US soccer club to purchase parking, as well as order food and beverages.

The app, which is powered by VenueNext and available in both the Apple and Google Play stores, will also provide fans with exclusive team content, videos, photo galleries, real-time statistics and information about Audi Field.

In addition, the new mobile portal will enable fans to use mobile ticketing to enter Audi Field, while it will also help spectators get to and from the stadium via public transit.

“Our new app will be the primary destination for fans to access DC United tickets, find team information, scores, game videos and more,” said Tom Hunt, president of business operations at DC United.

VenueNext chief executive and founder John Paul, added: “With an all-digital ticketing experience, DC United will get valuable data insights on guests that visit the stadium which enables them to delight their fans with customized experiences and offers.”

DC United’s app is a key part of encouraging fan loyalty by helping them manage their rewards for attending games.
