Yas Bay Arena update Image: Miral

The 18,000-seat Yas Bay Arena in Abu Dhabi, in a major construction milestone, got its longest roof truss – autographed by Developer-operator Miral’s chairman Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak and CEO Eng. Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, Construction Week reported.

The arena which is designed by HOK and Pascall + Watson, is being built by the Dutch contractors BAM International. It will be the first of its kind in the capital of Abu Dhabi. It will host a range of activities from sporting events to corporate and cultural events.

It will be UAE’s largest multi-purpose arena which is going to be an integral part of the Yas Bay waterfront project with couple of luxurious hotels and two-storey car park. It is a component of the 130ha mixed-use area under development on Yas Island’s southern end.

According to Miral, the roof truss supports a self-shading façade that will provide natural light, insulation against heat and reduce the energy consumption, contributing towards the green credentials for the arena. The arena will also be fitted with other energy saving systems that will result in substantial savings in energy and water.

“The completion of Yas Bay Arena is a significant milestone for Yas Island. It is a testament of our commitment to creating world-class attractions within the live entertainment industry. It complements Yas Bay’s appeal as an emerging waterfront leisure and entertainment district and our overall ambition of making Yas Island a top global destination that entertains, thrills and excites visitors,” said HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral.

The work which started in December 2017 is expected to complete in November 2019 according to BAM International website.
