A £70m facility will come up adjoining the iconic Wimbledon Championship complex. Willmott Dixon of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has been put in charge of the project.

The new facility will include 12 new tennis courts (six indoor and six outdoor), new club house facilities, an enhanced arrivals experience for competitors at The Championships and upgraded Centre Court chiller plant.

Sports Management reported that the facility will also be furnished with single-story underground car park wherein 338 vehicles can be parked. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2021.

Hopkins Architects and Rolfe Judd are the designers involved in the project. The structure of the building will be in tune with the AELTC’s spirit ‘tennis in an English garden’ in the sense that the facility will boast of double-curved roof structure and surrounding landscaping so that the same blends in sensitively with the local area and throughout its grounds.

The whole upgrade is to make certain that Wimbledon remains the numero uno stage in world tennis and also serves the purpose of offering the best amenities to AELTC Members the whole year through. It is a part of the club’s Master Plan.

“We are looking forward to working with The All England Lawn Tennis Club to create these superb new facilities in a location that is synonymous with excellence in everything associated with tennis,” said Roger Forsdyke, Managing Director for Willmott Dixon in South London and the South East.

“We’ll be bringing our experience of working in live environments to ensure we keep any impact of work on the local community to an absolute minimum – something underlined by our projects regularly scoring above average marks by the Considerate Constructors Scheme,” he further stated.
