Liverpool FC officials are not in a tearing hurry to go ahead with their plans to expand the capacity of Anfield Road. They want to buy more time to mull over the whole issue of Anfield Road stand reconstruction.

Liverpool FC officials have, however, announced expansion plans of the facility. Once the restoration work is over, the capacity of the venue will be expanded to 61,000.

In one month time, their planning permission is going to expire if they do not submit the requisite documents. If this is the scenario, the professional football club will have to wait for fresh permission.

In fact, Liverpool FC officials do not mind if the same lapses. Liverpool FC Chief Operating Officer (COO), Andy Hughes, commented, “The progress that has been made during ongoing feasibility studies has resulted in us being in a position to allow the outline planning permission to lapse. We are committed to working with local residents, planning officials and others as we now focus on the detail behind any proposed redevelopment for Anfield Road.”

The club officials want to take time and increase the venue capacity on a larger scale. As Hughes further commented, “Throughout this process we have been clear that our objective is to find the best possible solution for Anfield Road and that remains the case.”

Anfield reconstruction plans first emerged in 2016 when the first phase of renovation was over. This is not the first time that news of Anfield Road Stadium (the seventh largest football stadium in England) capacity expansion is doing the rounds.
