Parma – a City in Italy’s North – will play host to a maiden Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour event. The Emilia-Romagna Open will be held from May 22nd to May 29th, leading into the second Grand Slam tournament of the year in Paris (France).

‘ATP Tour’ stated that ATP has added a 250 clay-court tournament in late May following the one-week delay to the start of Roland-Garros.

The French Open due to start on May 23rd this year has been pushed back by a week due to national restrictions in place in France as COVID-19 continues with its fatal sting all over the globe. Roland-Garros will now run from May 30th to June 13th.

London (UK)-headquartered the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men’s professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour and the ATP Champions Tour.

The French Open, also called Roland-Garros, is a major tennis tournament held over two weeks at the Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France, beginning in late May each year. The venue is named after the French aviator Roland Garros.

Stade Roland Garros is a complex of tennis courts located in Paris that hosts the French Open, a tournament also known as Roland-Garros. It is a Grand Slam championship tournament played annually around the end of May and the beginning of June.

‘ATP Tour’ further stated that the Emilia-Romagna Open to be held in the heart of Emilia at the President Tennis Club of Montechiarugolo, is strongly supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region in Italy.

The Internazionali di Tennis Emilia Romagna is a professional tennis tournament played on clay courts. It is currently part of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Tour. It is held annually in Montechiarugolo, Parma, Italy since 2019.

Italy is experiencing a tennis boom, with 10 players finding a place in the Top 100 of the FedEx ATP Rankings. For the first time this November, the country will host the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin (Italy) in the week following the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan (Italy).

The Nitto ATP Finals is the second highest tier of annual men’s tennis tournaments after the four Grand Slam tournaments. The ATP Finals are the season-ending championships of the ATP Tour and feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams of the ATP Rankings.

The Next Gen ATP Finals is an annual men’s youth tennis exhibition tournament for the best 21-and-under players of the season.

MEF Tennis Events, which already runs ATP Challenger Tour events in Italy and abroad, will organize the event. It has already worked on events in the municipalities of Parma, Montechiarugolo and Forlì, which in the past two years have seen the triumphs of former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo (Spanish tennis player), American Frances Tiafoe (American tennis player) and #NextGenATP Italian Lorenzo Musetti (Italian tennis player).

Any further updates to the ATP Tour calendar will be communicated in due course.
