‘Slaves’ venue plans in Czech City take wing

The municipal administration of the Eastern Bohemian City of Hradec Králové (a City in the Czech Republic) has struck a CZK 568 million (€22m) deal for building a new football facility with the companies – Strabag (Austrian construction company), Geosan Group (part of the Residential Real Estate Development Industry in the Czech Republic) and D&D Elektromont (part of the Electrical Contractors Industry in Czech Republic). It is the biggest contract in the modern history of the City.

The ‘Radio Prague International’ stated that the stadium is expected to be an 8,000-person facility and is planned to get off the ground by the Spring of 2023. The arena will be built on the site on which the multipurpose Všesportovní Stadion – which was constructed in 1966 – presently sits.

With the above deal being struck, the Czech Republic second-tier league leader FC Hradec Králové is finally getting a new digs by the year 2023.

The 7,100-capacity Všesportovní Stadion is a multiuse stadium in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. It is used mostly for football matches and serves as the home ground of FC Hradec Králové. The stadium opened its doors on May 11^th, 1966.

FC Hradec Králové is a Czech football club based in the City of Hradec Králové. The club, which was founded in 1905, won the Czechoslovak First League in the 1959-1960 seasons. The club currently plays in the Czech National Football League (second level professional association football league in the Czech Republic).

The ‘Radio Prague International’ further stated that the above three companies will lead the construction of the 8,000-capacity multifunctional arena which will be the home of the team that is currently on course to be promoted to the Czech top-tier Fortuna Liga. The stadium will replace the club’s existing Všesportovní Stadion, which has been partially torn down since 2017 when plans for a new arena was being conceptualized.

The new arena, which will enjoy an athletics track, will be able to hold up to 25,000 spectators for concerts, and the capacity for sports events could be increased to 9,300. It will meet the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) 4 category requirements, meaning it can host international fixtures.

The stadium will also boast three gyms, a 100m indoor track and an outdoor amphitheater into the stadium.

FC Hradec Králové Chairman Jan Michálek said the construction of a new stadium is a guarantee of the club’s continued existence -“Without a dignified home, the club would expect a gradual but inevitable demise. The new arena should also help the City gain a strategic partner’s club.”

Architect Tomáš Vymetálek has lent the designs for the stadium, with all planning and permits already in place. An agreement is due to be reached on the construction schedule soon with demolition work at the location expected to begin in the Autumn.

Stated Ondřej Novák, Chairman, Strabag, the Austria-headquartered construction company, “The ambition of our implementation team is to build a stadium in Hradec Králové, which will be the pride of the City thanks to its architecture and multifunctional place, always full of life.”

The demolition of Všesportovní Stadion started in September 2017, but work got delayed by few years. The stadium has operated at a reduced capacity in the four years since.
