Germany Hallesche FC naming rights Image: Werner Ziegler

The German association football club Hallescher FC residence – Erdgas Sportpark in Halle, Germany – will soon be renamed ‘Leuna Chemie Stadion’. Traditionally, Halle is a location for heavy chemical industry. This is the reason why the club wants to bring back the word chemistry ‘Chemie’ into the stadium name.

‘Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk’ stated that come July 1st, 2021 and the Infra Leuna GmbH – owner and operator of infrastructure facilities – will take over the naming rights of the stadium, which is presently still called Erdgas Sportpark. Infra Leuna will pay 200,000 euros per season for the naming rights.

Hallescher FC, sometimes still called by its former popular name Chemie Halle, is a German association football club based in Halle an der Saale, Saxony-Anhalt. The club presently plays in the 3. Liga, the third highest level in the German football league system.

Erdgas Sportpark is a stadium in Halle, Germany. It has a capacity to hold 15,057 spectators. It is the home of Hallescher FC and replaced the Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion.

‘Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk’ further stated that Hallescher FC is a club with whom the word ‘chemistry’ has been intrinsically linked. In September 1954, the club was renamed SC Chemie Halle-Leuna, from June 1958 it was called SC Chemie Halle and from January 1966 the club was known by the name Hallescher FC Chemie.

Till date, whenever the players walk to the pitch on a gameday, the fans in the stands chant ‘Chemistry Hall’.
