Bayern Munich go slow on full house concept

Most of the Federal States in Germany has given the go-ahead to hold events and sporting activities in stadia with full capacity and the new rules will hold good till September 11^th. With the Bundesliga new season all set to start in August, more spectators are expected to be welcomed into the stadia fold notwithstanding rising cases of the more transmissible Delta variant in Germany. However, the German States of Bavaria (which includes top-flight club Bayern Munich) and Baden-Württemberg are not open to the idea of allowing full to the brim spectators in venues.

‘Der Spiegel’ stated that a maximum of 25,000 spectators should be able to watch Bundesliga games following a decision taken recently by the powers that be in Germany.

The 2021-2022 Bundesliga seasons will be the 59^th season of the Bundesliga, Germany’s premier football competition. It will begin on August 13^th, 2021 and will conclude on May 14^th, 2022. The fixtures were announced on June 25^th, 2021.

‘Der Spiegel’ further stated that the arenas may be used to a maximum of 50 percent capacity, with the total number of spectators being capped at 25,000 for the time being. However, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are keen to play in front of a maximum of 20,000 fans in their home facility – the 75,024-capacity Allianz Arena in Munich (Germany) which comes to circa 27 percent capacity. This is because ‘The Bavarians’ do not want to take a hasty decision when it comes to welcoming fans back to the venue fold keeping in mind the rising cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Germany along with the rest of the world.

As per guidelines laid down by the authorities concerned, stadium capacity will also depend on the virus caseload – coronavirus infections should not exceed 35 per 100,000 inhabitants. If the coronavirus caseload is high, then only a maximum of 5,000 spectators will be admitted to the stadia fold. People who have not yet received the jab or who have recovered from COVID-19 must produce a negative coronavirus report at the stadia entry point. Moreover, fans must follow in toto COVID-appropriate behavior.

No entry for tipplers

In the State of Bavaria, there will be restriction on the serving of alcohol inside the stadia as well as on the consumption of alcohol. People who come to the stadia drunk will be denied entry.

Just like the State of Bavaria, the State of Baden-Württemberg too wants a blanket ban on the consumption of alcohol inside stadia. They also want that wearing of masks should be made mandatory inside the venues and provisions should be made to make the arenas well-ventilated for the free flow of air.

The above relaxation on entry of fans does not just apply to soccer games but also to cultural events. The Federal States want to come out with their own respective set of rules as far as hygiene concepts are concerned when it comes to admitting more than 5,000 people inside arenas.
