UEFA showcase venues announced until 2025

European football’s governing body – the Union of European Football (UEFA) – announced on July 16^th the venues for the next four Champions League Finals (premier club football tournament) which will be taking place from 2022-2025. The decision regarding the UEFA Final venues was taken by the Executive Committee in a meeting held in this regard on July 16^th. According to the official tweet, St Petersburg (Russia), Istanbul (Turkey), London (UK), and Munich (Germany) have been chosen as the venues for hosting the next four finals.

The ‘RepublicWorld.com’ stated that while the 2022 edition will be played at St Petersburg in Russia, the 2023 UEFA Champions League finals will be hosted by the 76,092-capacity Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey. The 2023 UEFA Champions League finals originally to be played in Munich (Germany) will be moved to 2025. London (UK) has retained the rights to stage the UEFA Champions League finals in 2024 at the 90,000-capacity Wembley Stadium, making it somewhat of a European Final hotspot.

Nyon (Switzerland)-based the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is the administrative body for football, futsal and beach soccer in Europe. It is one of six continental confederations of world football’s governing body FIFA. UEFA consists of 55 national association members.

The ‘UEFA’ stated that following the relocation of the 2021 UEFA Champions League final to Porto (Portugal), the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul will now stage the 2023 decider.

Furthermore, the European Club Season Kick-Off event, which includes the draws for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League will take place in Istanbul at the end of August both for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.

The ‘UEFA’ further stated that Istanbul had initially been selected to host the 2020 final, but this was moved to Lisbon, Portugal as the COVID-19 situation in Turkey was quite grave. Consequently, the 2021 showpiece was due to take place in Istanbul, but as the coronavirus scenario continues to be grim in Turkey – it was moved to the 50,033-capacity Estádio do Dragão in Porto, Portugal – in order to allow 6,000 fans of each team to attend.

The 2022 edition will be the second final to be staged in Russia. The first, between Premier League teams Manchester United F.C. and Chelsea F.C. at Moscow’s 81,000-capacity Luzhniki Stadium in 2008 ended in an epic penalty shootout won by Sir Alex Ferguson’s (former Manager of Manchester United) side.

The 2024 final remains at Wembley, while the 75,024-capacity Allianz Arena in Munich (Germany) will now host the 2025 event, 13 years after the stadium last staged the game. The Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich were involved on home soil on that occasion, eventually losing to Chelsea F.C. on penalties.
