The Brazilian sports club Flamengo will be able to sell up to 10 percent of the capacity tickets of their home facility – Maracanã Stadium – in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) for the match on August 18th in which it will play against the Paraguayan sports club – Club Olimpia – for the quarter finals of the Copa Libertadores 2021.

‘NewsWep’ stated that however, the Brazilian team will only be able to open the gates of the legendary Maracanã Stadium to fans who already have taken both the jabs against COVID-19 and present recent proof that they did not contract the virus.

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, commonly referred to as Flamengo, is a Brazilian sports club based in Rio de Janeiro, in the neighborhood of Gávea, best known for their professional football team. The club was first established in 1895 as a rowing club and played their first official match in 1912.

The 4,000-capacity Maracanã Stadium, officially named Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, is an association football stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The stadium is part of a complex that includes an arena known by the name of Maracanãzinho, which means ‘The Little Maracanã’ in Portuguese.

The 2021 Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores is the 62nd edition of the CONMEBOL Libertadores, South America’s premier club football tournament organized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).

‘NewsWep’ further stated that it is mask mandatory for fans and they will have to maintain a distance of at least two meters from each other, according to the rules announced recently by the Rio de Janeiro Mayor’s Office. Matches have been played sans fans in Rio de Janeiro for more than a year as COVID continues to haunt the world.

The Rio de Janeiro team, which for several weeks had been seeking the green light from the Mayor’s office to be able to allow fans to grace their matches and wanted an occupancy of 30 percent for the Maracanã Stadium in the game against Olimpia, was finally given an audience by the municipality but with a percentage lower than requested.

Flamengo alleged that CONMEBOL already released the fans figures despite the strict coronavirus protocols in place as Brazil continues to take the maximum brunt of the deadly virus.

According to the Mayor’s Office, football stadia may open up to 50 percent occupancy from September 2nd and up to 100 percent from October 17th, by which time it is estimated that the entire adult population of Rio de Janeiro will have taken the first dose of the COVID vaccine and 65 percent both the doses.
