With COVID-19 causing ravages in Germany, football clubs in the German State of Bavaria have to prepare for ghost games again.

The ‘kicker’ stated that the Minister-President of Bavaria, Markus Söder, made an announcement in this regard on November 30th.

The CSU politician wants to enforce ghost games in football even if the Federal and State Governments disagree on a uniform approach to combat the devastating pandemic.

The ‘kicker’ quoted Söder as stating that, “It makes no sense in the foreseeable future to allow viewers again to the stadia fold. If that doesn’t work at the Federal level, we would do it for Bavaria alone.”

Söder tweeted, “People traveling in huge numbers right now in Germany when the country is reeling under the pandemic is a hugely irresponsible act. Though football is a very popular sport here, we cannot allow viewers into venues anymore looking at the extremely grim coronavirus situation.”

The clubs in Bavaria will have to play without fans in the stands just like the Bundesliga giant FC Bayern Munich.

The German States of Saxony and Baden-Württemberg has also announced ghost games.

On November 30th, the Executive Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel (CDU) and her designated successor Olaf Scholz (SPD) had telephonic conversations with the Prime Ministers of the Federal States over the COVID-19 crisis which is causing huge upheaval in the country.
