The City of Frankfurt (Germany) has given its nod for the expansion of the Deutsche Bank Park – home of the Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

The ‘FNP Frankfurter Neue Presse’ stated that the Deutsche Bank Park holds circa 50,000 fans. As part of the expansion plans, another 11,000 standing places are to be added.

Eintracht Frankfurt is a German professional sports club based in Frankfurt, Hesse (Germany) that is best known for its football club, which currently plays in Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system.

The 51,500-capacity Waldstadion, currently known as the Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship purposes, and formerly known as the Commerzbank-Arena, is a retractable roof sports stadium in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. The home stadium of the football club Eintracht Frankfurt, it opened in 1925.

The ‘FNP Frankfurter Neue Presse’ further stated that as per the club, the Head of the Sports Department, Mike Josef (SPD), granted the expansion approval on April 10th.

Informed Josef, “Construction will start in late Autumn. I am really happy for the City and for Eintracht Frankfurt. Around 11,000 new standing places will be added. This will increase the stadium capacity to 60,000.”

Axel Hellmann, spokesman of the Board of Eintracht Frankfurt, was thrilled with the above development, “Eighteen years back, we worked through the sweat of our brows to ensure that there was enough standing room in the facility. With the above decision, we have achieved a major goal.”

Apart from the standing areas, it is also being mulled that the Deutsche Bank Arena could be transformed into a mixed-use facility.
