Arrowhead Stadium will be upgraded Image: Kansas City Sports Commission

Kansas City (US) was recently revealed to be one of the 11 Host Cities for the 2026 World Cup, and now it appears the Arrowhead Stadium will be getting some major renovations.

The ‘Sports Illustrated’ stated that speaking about how the World Cup will cost residents financially, the Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas tweeted – “Only actual cost right now is $50M of improvements to the Arrowhead Stadium. Look for and ask to the State on that in addition to private fundraising to fund that step. That is unless the future of the stadiums chat progresses further.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ will be the 23rd FIFA World Cup™, the quadrennial international men’s soccer championship contested by the national teams of the member-associations of FIFA. The tournament will be jointly hosted by 16 Cities in three North American countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The 76,416-capacity Arrowhead Stadium is an American football stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, United States. It primarily serves as the home venue of the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).

The ‘Sports Illustrated’ further stated that Mayor Lucas was referring to the status of the stadium. The lease for Arrowhead runs out in 2031, and in March Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan said the franchise has considered new stadium options in the State of Kansas. He also didn’t rule out the possibility of either renovating the Arrowhead Stadium or even building a new stadium on site.

Regardless, Kansas City will be home to one of the most spectacular sports competitions in the world in 2026.
