For some St. Louis (Major League Soccer expansion franchise) soccer fans, the wait to get a peek inside the soon-to-open Centene Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri (US) is nearly over.

‘ksdk.com’ stated that the Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion franchise St. Louis City SC said recently that it plans to stage a game on September 18th at its Downtown West stadium (read Centene Stadium). The game will feature City SC’s second team, STL City 2, which competes in the MLS Next Pro league, playing its final regular season home game against Sporting KC II.

The St. Louis City SC is a Major League Soccer (MLS) expansion franchise that is expected to begin play in 2023. The club will be based in St. Louis, with home matches to be played at the Centene Stadium.

The Centene Stadium is a $457.8 million 22,500-seat soccer-specific stadium under construction in St. Louis, Missouri, US. It is the future home of St. Louis City SC, the City’s expansion Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise.

St. Louis City SC 2, often shortened to St. Louis City 2 or City2, is an American professional soccer team that is located in St. Louis, Missouri, US. It is the reserve team of St. Louis City SC and participates in MLS Next Pro.

The MLS Next Pro is a men’s professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that is affiliated with Major League Soccer. It launched in 2022 with 21 teams, of which 20 are reserve sides for MLS clubs and the independent Rochester New York FC.

The Major League Soccer (MLS) is a men’s professional soccer league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation, which represents the sport’s highest level in the United States. The league comprises 28 teams – 25 in the United States and 3 in Canada – and will expand to 29 teams for the 2023 season.

‘ksdk.com’ further stated that the City SC said it plans to fill only the lower bowl of the Centene Stadium for the September 18th game and that it will be a “closed event” for fans that have purchased season tickets for its top team. A team spokesman said the lower bill will fit about 13,000 fans for the game.

Said Carolyn Kindle, City SC President and head honcho, “A CITY2 vs. Sporting KC II game will be a great introduction to our stadium in what will be a long list of events before next year. This match will give our CITY2 players the opportunity to play in our world-class stadium and our current season ticket members a first look inside the stadium as we build toward our historic 2023 inaugural season.”

The 22,500-seat Centene Stadium is the focal point of City SC’s $461 million Downtown West development, which spans more than 30 acres and also includes the team’s training facility South of the stadium.
