Rogers Centre nod to sensory needs supporters

In partnership with the nonprofit organization KultureCity, a Sensory Room is available for use at all events held in Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.

‘Major League Baseball’ stated that the Rogers Centre sensory room is designed to cater to fans’ sensory processing needs, such as autism, Down Syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder, dementia, and other conditions that can benefit from a safe and soothing atmosphere.

Alabama (US)-based KultureCity is a nonprofit organization which trains staff at venues and then certifies venues which have sensory inclusive modifications. The organization also provides application for Apple and Android devices which lists sensory-friendly venues to assist those with sensory processing disorders.

The 49,286-capacity Rogers Centre is a multipurpose retractable roof stadium in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, situated at the base of the CN Tower near the Northern shore of Lake Ontario. Opened in 1989 on the former Railway Lands, it is home to the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB).

The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team based in Toronto. The Blue Jays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League East division. Since 1989, the team has played its home games primarily at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

‘Major League Baseball’ further stated that the space will allow individuals, regardless of their ability, to enjoy amenities at the Rogers Centre confidently, knowing they have a quiet space to retreat to for a break, as needed.

This room is located at Section 212, behind the Fan Services.
 

The items in the room include:

  • Bean bag chairs;
  • Ottomans;
  • Bubble walls;
  • Texture wall;
  • Nanoleafs;
  • Sensory panel;
  • Activity panels;
  • Weighted lap pads;
  • Headphones;
  • Coloring sheets and crayons; and
  • Television.

 
In addition to the sensory room, Sensory Bags are available at any Fan Services located on the 100-Level at Sections 120 and 135 on the 200-Level near Sections 212 and 236 and on the 500-Level near Sections 508 and 532.
