Progress on LA Chargers HQ Image: LA Chargers and Gensler

The future home of the National Football League’s (NFL’s) Los Angeles Chargers continues to make progress in El Segundo, California (US).

‘URBANIZE’ stated that the new office complex and training facility, located on a 14-acre property just East of the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, is being built for the Chargers by the Continental Development Corporation and Mar Ventures, Inc. The more than $270-million project is rising on a land that was once part of Raytheon’s (American multinational aerospace and defense conglomerate South Bay campus).

The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles area (US). The Chargers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference West division.

The SoFi Stadium is a 70,240-seat sports and entertainment indoor stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood, California, United States. SoFi occupies the former site of the Hollywood Park Racetrack, three miles (4.8 km) from the Los Angeles International Airport and 0.5 miles (0.80 km) Southeast of the 17,505-capacity The Kia Forum. It serves as the home ground of the NFL team Los Angeles Chargers.

El Segundo (US)-based the Continental Development Corporation’s mission is to develop and build projects of the highest quality and to actively support measures which contribute to the quality of life in the communities in which they do business.

El Segundo (US)-based Mar Ventures is a real estate company that specializes in real estate asset acquisition, development and management.

‘URBANIZE’ further stated that Gensler Sports is designing the project, which includes a 145,000-square-foot main building that will house offices, a hospitality club, studio facilities, and a 3,100-square-foot media center. At the exterior, plans call for three natural grass fields to the East of the building, with seating for more than 5,000 spectators. Parking for 348 vehicles are to be located in a surface lot.

San Francisco (US)-based Gensler Sports help clients deliver the best experience for guests and teams, activate communities and create a return on investment by designing sports and entertainment venues with enhanced technology, service and amenities.

When the project broke ground in early 2022, completion of the Chargers campus was expected in Spring 2024.

Although the Chargers may share the SoFi Stadium with the Los Angeles Rams, the two NFL teams have gone with very different locations for their headquarters facilities. Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been on a buying spree in Warner Center, buying up nearly 100 acres of land off of Topanga canyon Boulevard – including the 35-acre site of the Promenade Mall. A temporary practice facility is already in the planning stages and mixed-use project with housing and commercial uses similar to that which surrounds the SoFi Stadium is expected to follow.
