Buenos Aires (Argentina) will host this year’s Copa Libertadores final in November, although a stadium for the match has yet to be selected, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said recently.

‘AP’ stated that it will be the first time the Argentine capital will host the Copa Libertadores final since the competition switched to a single-match format in 2019.

The Copa Libertadores is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football.

The 2024 Copa Libertadores is the 65th edition of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s premier club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The final is scheduled to be played on November 30th, 2024 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) is the continental governing body of football in South America and it is one of FIFA’s six continental confederations. The oldest continental confederation in the world, its headquarters are located in Luque, Paraguay, near Asunción.

‘AP’ further stated that the CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez said on social media that the decision was an acknowledgment of “the great work” of Argentina’s soccer federation – the Argentine Football Association which is the governing body of football in Argentina based in Buenos Aires.

Argentina is the reigning Copa America and World Cup champion but its teams have struggled to do well in the South American club competition. The Brazilian clubs have won every title since 2019.

In 2018, Argentine clubs River Plate and the Club Atlético Boca Juniors played for the Copa Libertadores trophy in Madrid (Spain) because of fan violence in Buenos Aires. River won the title that year.
