Veridas implemented at El Monumental Image: Veridas and River Plate

Club Atlético River Plate has installed a new Veridas facial recognition system to allow fans quicker and safer access to the Mâs Monumental stadium.

The River Plate stadium is one of the largest in the world in terms of capacity, hosting over 85,000 attendees per event.

Mâs Monumental Stadium, popularly known as the River Plate Stadium, is a stadium in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina, home venue of the Club Atlético River Plate.

Club Atlético River Plate, commonly known as River Plate, is an Argentine professional sports club based in the Belgrano neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina. River Plate has won Argentina’s Primera División (the country’s premier football division) championship a record 38 times, most recently in 2023

Recently, River Plate has faced significant logistical and security challenges in managing stadium access. The club relied on a traditional system of physical and digital tickets, which led to long queues, extended waiting times, and potential security breaches.

These issues were exacerbated by the risk of fraud and unauthorized entry, including individuals with bans.

Consequently, there was an urgent need for a system that could ensure faster, safer, and more efficient access for thousands of attendees, enhancing the overall event experience and optimizing security resources.

The implementation of Veridas’ biometric technology at the Mâs Monumental brought an immediate change in the stadium access experience, benefiting over 95,000 fans.

The system enables the entry of more than 60 people per minute and eliminates the need for physical or digital tickets. This process optimizes entry flow and significantly reduces queues at access points, striking a balance between safety and convenience.

The new access system provides frictionless entry that can be managed through any device, such as a smartphone or computer. This flexibility contributes to a more comfortable and modern experience, in line with River’s increasingly digital environment.

The technology has been tested in other stadiums, proving effective even for individuals of different ages and physical characteristics, such as those wearing glasses.

River Plate will also reap sustainable advantages from the solution. The creation of a digital fan community with unique, verified identities opens new opportunities for interaction and service personalization.

Additionally, the ability to manage and monitor access in real-time provides the club with a powerful tool for decision-making and future event planning.

Another significant benefit is the potential to use the terminals as digital advertising platforms, generating new revenue streams and enriching the experience for sponsors.

Patricio Corradi, Systems Manager at River Plate, said, “We are probably the club with the most turnstiles in the world, with two levels of access control and 84,000 people at every game. The flow needs to be dynamic, and we developed that access control.

“It’s a solid solution, and we strive to innovate. Everyone enters everywhere with their face. Why couldn’t we do the same? It’s important for member access to be pleasant and frictionless and for those who cause trouble not to return.”
