Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) board of directors on November 14, 2017 unanimously approved the selection of Atlanta-based TVS Design for the $1.4-billion expansion plans that will see the Convention Centre emerge as the second largest in North America.

TVS Design will collaborate with four Las Vegas-based firms – TSK Architects, Simpson Coulter Studio, Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects and KME Architects – on the project.

The highlight of the expansion project will be a new 600,000-square-foot exhibition hall within 1.4 million square feet of new space. That will enable the LVCVA to attract more conventions and trade shows, which usually fill hotel rooms in midweek periods.

The project is expected to create an estimated 14,000 construction jobs and 7,800 new permanent full-time jobs, according to local media reports.

The expansion is keeping a 2021 completion deadline followed by a renovation phase, that will take another two years. Once completed in 2023, the Las Vegas Convention Center will be the second largest facility of its kind in North America, only behind Chicago’s McCormick Place which has an area of 3.2 million square feet.

The next Coliseum Summit US, will be held May 9-10, 2018, in Detroit, Michigan.
