Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad is expected to undergo renovation Image: World Cricket Leagues on Facebook

Cricket infrastructure in Sindh (Pakistan) is getting a shot in the arm as Hyderabad (City in the Sindh province of Pakistan) is all set to be a new host location in Pakistan Super League (PSL).

‘thepakistanconnect.com’ stated that as part of the above development the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad is set to undergo renovation and upgrades on a priority basis.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is the highest level of domestic Twenty20 cricket in Pakistan. The league is owned by the Pakistan Cricket Board and its first season was played in 2016.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), formerly known as the Board of Control for Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP), is a sports governing body for cricket in Pakistan responsible for controlling and organizing all tours and matches undertaken by the Pakistan national cricket team.

The Niaz Stadium is a cricket ground in Hyderabad, Pakistan. The ground can accommodate 15,000 spectators and hosted its first Test match in 1973.

‘thepakistanconnect.com’ further stated that the above development comes after confirmation that the FKS has acquired a PSL franchise which will be based in Hyderabad thus making it the second City in Sindh to boast a PSL franchise after Karachi and it is an important step as far as the expansion of the league is concerned.

The FKS is a US-based investment group led by the Pakistani-American businessman Fawad Sarwar.

According to officials, the FKS bought the Hyderabad franchise at Rs. 175 crores at the PSL team auction held in Islamabad (capital of Pakistan). The addition of Hyderabad in the PSL map has led to the urgency of renovating the Niaz Stadium so that it fits in the bill of hosting a high-profile T20 tournament.

The proposed improvements are planned in terms of spectator facilities, player amenities, broadcasting facilities, and general matchday operations to ensure the Niaz Stadium meets the PSL benchmarks.

The stakeholders are of the view that the renovation of the Niaz Stadium will not only lend an enriching experience to the fans but will also brighten Hyderabad’s prospect to host major national and international cricketing events in the future.

The above move is also being seen as a long-awaited return of top-tier cricket to a City with deep historical roots as far as cricket is concerned as well as enjoying a passionate fan base.

Fawad Sarwar of the FKS Group confirmed that the team’s name has already been finalized but would be revealed at a later stage.

He went on to say that the decision on the full branding including the official team’s name and visual identity will be announced later in a ceremony presumably to be held in tandem with the PSL officials and other key stakeholders.

Bringing Hyderabad into the scene is one of PSL’s wider plans to increase its geographical footprint and bond with the Pakistan fans.

By introducing the league to new Cities the PSL hopes to foster cricket development at the grassroots level as well as benefit the local economy through sports-related activities.

In a parallel development infrastructure upgrades will also be taking place in Punjab (province in Pakistan). The 15,000-capacity Jinnah Stadium in the Pakistan City Sialkot will undergo a major facelift.

The Sialkot team was bought by the OZ Developers in a bidding process with a winning bid amount of Rs.185 crore which superseded the Rs. 170 crore reserve prices, another indication of the rising commercial interest as the league continues to expand.

The OZ Developers (Private) Limited is an emerging, prominent real estate development company in Pakistan led by its Chairman Hamza Majeed. It specializes in high-rise luxury, commercial projects and property management.
