The Pinellas County (County in Florida, US) recently gave the nod to a term sheet with the Major League Baseball (MLB) team Philadelphia Phillies for a “major revamp of the team’s spring training complex in Clearwater (City in Florida)”.

‘SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL’ stated that as per the non-binding term sheet the County would contribute $85M in “tourist development tax money toward the project”.

The revamp of the BayCare Ballpark is “expansive and will entail renovation of the locker rooms, the batting cages and increase capacity for seating and concessions.”

The renovations to the BayCare Ballpark, the Carpenter Complex and the Phillies Complex are “expected to be completed by 2029”.

The Philadelphia Phillies are an American professional baseball team based in Philadelphia (US). The Phillies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League East Division.

The 43,651-capacity Citizens Bank Park is a baseball stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It is home to the Major League Baseball (MLB) team Philadelphia Phillies. The stadium opened on April 3rd, 2004.

Price Tag

‘SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL’ further stated that the redevelopment project price tag of the Phillies is expected to be $205M. The Phillies are planning on receiving $20M from the State of Florida and $30M from Clearwater. The team will “cover the rest and any costs overrun”.

Lease Renewal

The Phillies would renew their lease, which ends in 2028, “through 2047 under the proposed terms”.
