Myriam Calaber is the Sales Director at VITEC and Europe and Africa fall under her realm. She boasts extensive experience in International Sales and Business Development and has worked with passion to provide the stadium and venues across her region with first-string Internet Protocol (IP) video and digital signage solutions.

In a chat with ‘Coliseum’, Myriam Calaber, Sales Director, Europe & Africa, VITEC, France, shares insights with Grant Prophet, Head of Product Marketing, VITEC, UK, on how in the last 10 years she is seeing a trend of maximum use of the IP video and the digitalization trend of things and how things are evolving in Europe and mainly in England – “In America video is an investment while in Europe it is an expense but lately that mindset is changing in Europe.”

VITEC

Châtillon (France)-based VITEC is a market-leading provider of Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), Video Streaming and Digital Signage Solutions that help the organizations harness the power of video to engage, empower and evolve.

VITEC Solutions can be tailored to each customer’s unique market needs with easy-to-use technologies that ensure the delivery of high-quality, low-latency High Definition (HD) video, capturing live and recorded events for seamless distribution in a multitude of formats anytime, anywhere, to any device.

‘Memorable Experience’

Talking about VITEC, Grant Prophet informs that VITEC is an end-to-end provider of IP solutions not solely for the stadiums but the stadiums and the venues are a big part of the markets that the company covers – “Today, it is not just about the game – but the whole event before, during and after the game which makes for an incredibly memorable experience.”

Extensive Video Use

Myriam Calaber have been working with both 15 to 20 stadium operators, stadium owners, etc., mainly in the Europe continent, and over the past 10 years she has seen extensive use of the video yet compared to the United States it is still “less”.

She added – “Today the stadium owners/operators want to provide the fans the overall venue experience and not just watching the game.”

Core Tenet

Prophet stated that today video is a core tenet of the stadium experience and is providing a fan experience that is more engaging, driving more revenue and ultimately keeping people in and around the stadium for longer.

Calaber could not agree more and said that over the time “we are seeing more and more technology involved with video and it’s very exciting and with technology evolving we can do much more with video.”

Tik Tok

Talking about using the social media platforms to attract more fans, she recounted how the Paris basketball Marketing Manager is using video and social media to attract more fans, especially the young lot – “They use Tik Tok to capture the match moments but it’s not only the game but it’s also the entertainment they organize around the game. Being visible on social media they saw an increase in attendance and I really found this to be very interesting.”

Fashion Cam

Calaber mentioned about how fashion cam is the latest trend and people buy more merchandise from the stores in the venue in their bid to be the best dressed fan – “The fans are taking it very seriously and one can see how well-dressed the people are.” However, for kiss cam, she stated that it is very new in France although it might be very common in the United Kingdom.

Signage

The stadiums in the United States incorporate advertising into their digital strategy very well whether that be the menu boards advertising, food and beverage (F&B), or whether that be advertising even mixed into entertainment. It keeps the fans who are not in the venue solely to watch the game engaged.

Talking about how video and digital signage and anything around video has always been in very high use in a venue, Calaber said that “there are signage everywhere – signage for information, signage for menu board and also for wayfinding. One of the main uses for signage at the end of the game is direction – helping the visitors to find the right gate, go out of the venue and find the right public transport to go back home. You can mainly use those displays for wayfinding, for information and also we integrate when we deploy technology in a stadium. It is not only video and signage it is also to make the system more powerful.”

Wrap-up

‘Powerful Medium’

Drawing the conversation to a close, Grant Prophet maintained that in the US in venues like the 18,064-seat Chase Center in San Francisco “while sitting in the Box there are these massive stunning video walls streaming the game in very low latency and it a very immersive experience and one can experience the excitement of the game and the immersion of the game without physically looking at the game and at the same time grabbing a drink or a burger.”

Myriam Calaber concluded by stating, “To me the use of IP video is so large, the limit is just imagination. I have been dealing with IP video for 30 years and it is a very powerful medium when well used.”
