Sydney Accor Stadium screen unveiled Image: Accor Stadium

Minister for Tourism and Sport Stuart Ayres has officially switched on Accor Stadium’s (Australia) Great Southern Screen, ahead of a blockbuster schedule of events at Sydney’s Olympic venue.

The ‘Accor Stadium’ stated that the Great Southern Screen is part of more than $10 million of fan-focused digital upgrades throughout the venue. At 120m long and 10m high, the Great Southern Screen stretches around the entire Southern end of the stadium and is the longest high-definition straight-run stadium video display anywhere in the world.

The 83,500-capacity Stadium Australia, currently known as Accor Stadium for sponsorship purposes, is a multipurpose stadium located in the Sydney Olympic Park, in Sydney, Australia.

Accor S.A. is a French multinational hospitality company that owns, manages and franchises hotels, resorts and vacation properties. It is the largest hospitality company in Europe, and the sixth largest worldwide. Accor operates in 5,199 locations in over 110 countries.

Said Ayres, “We are continuing to invest in Sydney’s major event venue to ensure the people of New South Wales (NSW) are given the best live stadium experience in Australia and we attract the biggest names in sport, music and arts from all across the globe to New South Wales. Fans at Accor Stadium are set to enjoy a live gameday experience like never before starting this weekend with the Australian Football League’s (AFL’s) Sydney Derby, followed by the National Rugby League’s (NRL’s) Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Brisbane Broncos clash, with the Great Southern Screen now in operation.”

The unveiling of the Great Southern Screen comes in the countdown to the AFL Round 1 Sydney Derby, Great Western Sydney Giants vs. Sydney Swans, on March 19th and the Canterbury Bulldogs’ opening home game of the NRL season against Brisbane Broncos on March 20th. Soon after, Australia’s Socceroos (Australia national football team) will play a crucial FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Japan in front of a huge crowd on March 24th.

Informed Accor Stadium CEO Daryl Kerry, “The run of events in March is just the beginning of a packed calendar of events at Accor Stadium this year with State of Origin I (annual best-of-three rugby league series) in June and two huge concerts featuring global acts Guns N’ Roses (American hard rock band) and Foo Fighters (American rock band) already announced for later in the year.”

Sydney’s Olympic stadium officially became Accor Stadium last November after Accor, the largest hotel operator in the Pacific, won the naming rights for the iconic venue in Sydney Olympic Park.

Stated Sarah Derry, CEO, Accor Pacific, “As global leaders in hospitality, Accor gives guests world-class experiences. It is fitting that at Accor Stadium we will be entertaining sports and entertainment fans with this incredible screen, creating unforgettable experiences for all.”

The Great Southern Screen was delivered, installed and commissioned by Daktronics Australia and its integration at Accor Stadium was planned by global architectural design firm Populous.
