The Egyptian Premier League team – the Al Ahly SC’s (Egypt) – future home will officially be known as the Vodafone Stadium after Vodafone Egypt secured the venue’s exclusive naming rights and signed on as its sole technology partner under a landmark agreement with Al Qalaa Al Hamraa (a major company and sports-city development project created to build and manage the new 42,000-seat stadium and complex for the Al Ahly SC).

The naming rights agreement marks Vodafone Egypt’s first investment of this scale in the sports venues and forms part of a wider push by the company to use telecommunications, digital payments and smart infrastructure to reshape the supporter experience.

Digital Backbone

‘technotime.net’ stated that the above deal places Vodafone at the heart of one of Egypt’s most anticipated sports infrastructure projects with the telecom operator set to help design and deliver the digital backbone of the new stadium rather than limiting its role to conventional commercial sponsorship.

The Al Ahly SC is a professional sports club based in Cairo, Egypt. The club is mainly known for its professional football team which plays in the Egyptian Premier League, the highest tier of the Egyptian league system. They are known to be the most successful club in world football based on the league titles.

The Cairo International Stadium, formerly known as the Nasser Stadium, is an Olympic-standard, multiuse stadium with an all-seated capacity of 75,000. It serves as the residence of the Al Ahly SC.

The top-flight team Al Ahly SC’s under-construction home – the 42,000-seat Vodafone Stadium in Sheikh Zayed City within the greater Cairo area (Egypt) – is slated for completion around 2029.

At England (UK)-based Vodafone the purpose is to connect everyone. They provide innovative mobile and fixed connectivity solutions to empower their customers across the globe. And Vodafone is constantly expanding coverage to bridge the continents and spread inclusion, even in the most remote places.

Broad Technology Program

‘technotime.net’ further stated that Vodafone Egypt will oversee a broad technology program covering infrastructure planning, project management, systems integration, and digital consultancy alongside the deployment of connectivity and technology services intended to support both the stadium operations and the matchday experience.

Digital Ecosystem

The planned digital ecosystem will extend across the entire fan journey, from ticket booking and arrival at the venue to the entry procedures, the mobile connectivity, the cashless payments, and the interactive services inside the stadium.

Vodafone Cash

Vodafone Cash will also hold exclusive rights within the telecom mobile-wallet category with the service set to become an accepted payment method at the stadium and across Al Ahly’s club branches.

Scalable Smart Stadium

The company said the venue will be developed as a connected and scalable smart stadium allowing new technologies and services to be introduced over time as the project evolves.

‘Integrated Experience’

Maintained Mohamed Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Vodafone Egypt and Regional Head of International Markets at Vodacom Group, “Launching the Vodafone Stadium represents a new step in our vision for investing in the future of Egyptian sport. Our objective is not simply to place the Vodafone name on the stadium but to build an integrated experience powered by connectivity, digital infrastructure and interactive services.”

Tech Influence

Abdallah added that football is no longer defined solely by the match itself with technology now influencing every stage of the supporter’s experience before, during and after the game.

Historic Milestone

The Al Ahly SC President Mahmoud El Khatib described the agreement as a historic milestone in the club’s long-running ambition to establish a permanent home worthy of its sporting legacy and the fanbase – “With Vodafone joining as a principal and technology partner we are entering a new phase that goes beyond building a football stadium. We aim to create a world-class fan experience and set new standards for the future of Egyptian sport.”

‘Connected Destination’

Mohamed Kamel, Chairman of Al Qalaa Al Hamraa, said the involvement of a global brand such as Vodafone reflected the commercial strength and long-term potential of the stadium project – “We are not building a stadium alone. We are creating a smart, connected destination that will establish new benchmarks for innovation, digital transformation and the fan experience across the region.”

Digital Services

The stadium agreement was announced alongside a separate four-year partnership bringing together Vodafone Egypt, the Al Ahly SC and the United Sports (a strategic marketing and commercial partner of the Al Ahly). Under that arrangement Vodafone will become the club’s principal sponsor and official technology partner with the collaboration extending beyond the first football team to youth development, women’s sports and new digital services for supporters.

Together, the two agreements represent Vodafone Egypt’s largest sports investment to date and signal a broader shift from traditional sponsorship towards long-term investment in sports technology, digital infrastructure and fan engagement.
