The Premier League team Aston Villa F.C. (UK) has plans to increase the capacity of its home pitch – Villa Park – to over 50,000 with the addition of a new stand.

‘Radio Kerry’ stated that the club has also received planning permission to build a new academy adjacent to the stadium.

The Aston Villa Football Club is an English professional football club based in Aston, Birmingham (UK). The club competes in the Premier League, the top tier of the English football league system. Founded in 1874, they have played at their home ground, Villa Park, since 1897.

The Villa Park is a football stadium in Aston, Birmingham, England (UK), with a seating capacity of 42,749. It has been the home of Premier League side Aston Villa F.C. since 1897.

Villa will now consult fans and stakeholders to make sure the plans fit the needs of the local community. This exercise will take place over the coming months.

The ‘Birmingham World’ stated that preliminary designs have been created to transform the stadium, which include building the new stand, as well as capacity of the stadium increasing from just over 42,000 to over 50,000.

New plans also include upgrading and expanding the hospitality facilities and creating an entirely new venue for improving retail and merchandizing activities, as well as other entertainment activities.

The ‘Birmingham World’ further stated that the news comes as Villa also revealed its financial accounts, which has seen turnover grow to £183.6m from £112.6m in the previous financial year.

Although the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic cost the club an estimated £36.6m, primarily due to loss of matchday revenue and rebates of Premier League broadcasting funding, the club said losses before tax were down to £37.3m from £99.5m in the previous year, a 62.5 percent reduction.
