The Australian Football League (AFL) has announced a price freeze on General Admission tickets for all matches at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Victoria, and the Marvel Stadium in Docklands – both in Australia – across the 2023 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

‘AFL’ stated that after a previous price freeze across the last four years (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022), the Australian Football League (AFL) continues its commitment to affordability by once again freezing general admission tickets at $27 Adult, $18 Concession and $5 child. Kids under four-years-old continue to be free.

Melbourne, Victoria (Australia)-based the Australian Football League (AFL) is a company operating the premier and fully professional competition of Australian Rules football and the AFL Women’s and other competitions. It was originally named the Victorian Football League (VFL) and was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season in 1897. It changed its name to Australian Football League in 1990 after expanding its competition to other Australian States in the 1980s.

The 1,00,024-capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), also known locally as ‘The G’, is an Australian sports stadium located in Yarra Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

The 53,359-capacity Docklands Stadium, also currently known by the naming rights sponsorship as the Marvel Stadium, is a multipurpose sports and entertainment stadium in the Docklands area of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Construction started in October 1997 and was completed in the year 2000 at a cost of A$460 million.

The 127th season of one of Australia’s biggest sporting competitions (2023 Toyota AFL Premiership Season) will commence on March 16th with all 18 clubs returning to compete. This season will have a record long 23 game home-and-away season followed by a finals series to determine the 2023 champion.

‘AFL’ further stated that additionally, following a successful trial in 2022, the Family ticket, consisting of two Adults and two Children for $54 will be available at all home and away season games at both the MCG and Marvel Stadium.

Tickets for MCG (Ticketek) and Marvel Stadium (Ticketmaster) matches went on sale on February 21st for club and AFL Members, followed by sale to the General Public on February 22nd.

Commented Kylie Rogers, AFL Executive General Manager, Customer and Commercial, “More than 6.1 million fans attended a game last season, one of our best seasons on record both on and off the field, and with the 2023 season just round the corner, the momentum is very quickly building. The price freeze and family ticket are part of our commitment to fans in keeping footy prices as affordable and accessible as possible and thanking members and fans who continue to stick by their clubs, as cost-of-living pressures are very much front of mind for every household. We are really aware of the challenges everyone is facing, this is the fifth year in a row we have frozen General Admission prices – it is an important part of continuing to make the game as accessible as possible.”

Concluded Rogers, “In driving key commercial outcomes, it allows us to keep AFL matches affordable and accessible while also working with another of our key priorities to ensure our game is affordable and accessible at the community level, where young boys and girls can play footy.”
