The Heinz-Steyer-Stadion (Germany) is finally being rebuilt. It is to be converted into a modern and multifunctional sports and events facility for competitive and popular sports. It is expected to be ready by 2023.

The ‘Sachsen Fernsehen’ stated that the stadium will primarily be used for athletics events, American football and soccer. The stadium will enjoy over 5,000 covered seats. The spectator capacity can, however, be temporarily expanded to up to 15,000 people using mobile grandstands.

The Heinz-Steyer-Stadion in Dresden, Germany, is an association football, American football and athletics stadium currently serving as the home venue for the German multisport club Dresdner SC and the American football team Dresden Monarchs. It has a capacity of about 30,000 but is currently restricted to about 5,000 for football matches.

Dresden’s Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and Saxon Minister of Education and Culture Christian Piwarz of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) were present at the groundbreaking ceremony held recently.

The ‘Sachsen Fernsehen’ further stated that with a total cost of around 37.3 million euros, the renovation and expansion of the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion is one of the largest municipal construction projects in sports venue industry since 1990.

The Free State of Saxony is funding the construction project with four million euros, and it is also providing around 770,000 euros in funding for the professional disposal of contaminated building rubble.

In September 2018, the Dresden City Council decided to renovate and expand the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion. The Competitive Dialogue (CD) started in July 2019. On November 17th, 2020, the jury selected the winner of the Competitive Dialogue, which was confirmed by the City Council on January 28th, 2021. Now, the long-awaited start of construction is pending. It will begin with the demolition of the stone grandstand and the excavation of the construction pit. The shell work will be over by Autumn 2022. The expansion work will then start, which will take about a year. At the same time, the outdoor facilities and the infield will be ready by 2022 end.

Competitive Dialogue (CD) is a public sector procurement tendering procedure whereby you enter into dialog with suppliers until you find a solution that meets the needs of your organization. It is ideal for complex and high-risk solutions where there are gaps in your requirements, outcomes, contract or commercials.
